Poe’s Mysterious Death Although there are several theories as to how Edgar Allan Poe died, I think he died from a practice called cooping which involved excessive alcohol ingestion as well. Cooping was a form of electoral fraud where victims are forced to wear disguises, do drugs and drink alcohol and then vote numerous times. Most of the theories involving Poe’s death have been discredited. The cooping theory is one of the most likely ones to have happened. In comparison to other theories, this one is considered likely to be true. There are just too many discrepancies in the other theories to be identified as true. I do not believe Poe died from carbon monoxide poisoning, heavy metal poisoning or rabies. Hair samples were taken and tested for both carbon monoxide poisoning and heavy metal poisoning. Carbon monoxide poisoning resulted inconclusive while the heavy metal test showed it was 30 times lower than Mercury poisoning. Rabies was not a likely theory as Poe had no animal bites found on his body. He remained thirsty and drinking water until his death while in the hospital and people who have been infected with rabies have hydrophobia. Based on exploring different ideas and some facts, it is my belief that the cooping theory is most logical. This is the only theory that I have found to have no facts to discredit it, while all others have at least one thing to go against the theorty. We probably will never know what truly killed Edgar Allen Poe. It is fascinating to see the different outlooks on how and why he could have died. One of the most influential poets that left you with mysteries in his poetry, has done it again with his own
