The high school dropout rate is ever growing in America. So, why do high school students drop out of school these days? There are reasons people think of, but none ever cover every possibility. Dropping out of school is an issue many teens go through today. I feel like they are different reason high school students want to and do drop out of school. Mostly, students drop out of high school because of family issues, peer pressure, and teen pregnancy.
Family issues contribute to student dropout rate. First, school can be overwhelming and students need support at home. If a parent doesn’t check and make sure school work is completed, then the child doesn’t see any reason to do the works, ends up failing and most likely drop out of school. Second, parents may cause children to have low self esteem which can push the child to drop out. For example, if a child is told continuously that he or she is dumb or not intelligent enough; they actually start to believe it and do not perform well in school.
