Identify the determinants of population health A wide range of determinants, including physical, social and economic factors, as well as individual’s characteristics and behaviours influence the health and well-being in this population. Advanced age, dementia, side effects of psychotropic medications and dementia related psychological and behavioural symptoms have direct impact on this population’s health (Wetzels et al. 2010). Social and environmental factors, such as carer-patient relationships, lack of staff and resources, interact with the key determinants, which indirectly impacts on long-term institutionalised clients’ health and well-being (Bradshaw, Playford & Riazi 2012). 2. Guided by the findings above and the input from the community, further investigation was conducted in the peer reviewed published literature to ensure the effectiveness (cost, benefits and feasibility) of each activity, as well as the consultation of the community. Five specific activities: patting the balloon, talking therapy, doll therapy, walking in the garden and shared reading and listening, were selected and designed based on the evidence, community strengths and available
Dementia is common among a large population of elderly people. The disease affects not only the individual diagnosed, but also the caregivers that work towards making their life comfortable in the end. Understanding and learning about the disease is crucial in helping those that experience or live with someone who has dementia. The services and support that are currently in affect for elderly people with dementia and the caregivers is poor, and ineffective because of the lack of research and information on the topic.

Living in today 's world it is safe for individuals to assume that times are significantly diverse than they were a decade or many decades ago. Social determinants of health in the past varied in what it may have meant to an individual; in modern day the term social determinant of health refers to the health of a population. Conditions such as employment, living conditions/working conditions, physical activity and more are all factors that contribute to social determinant of health in which those can positively induce in an individual 's life or negatively become detrimental. Roughly about twenty-seven years ago food banks were created after the deep recession in unemployment. Ever since that day it 's become a natural decomposition in Canadian
A person’s health along with the health of a community are influenced heavily by the social determinants of health. These determinants create a strong foundation for a healthy and proper development of a community (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2013). Further, a proper foundation will allow the children within the community to develop properly, which will foster their potential for intellectual and physical intelligence. This paper will explore the effects of healthy childhood development, personal health practices and coping skills, health services and income and social statuses with in the Maple Leaf neighbourhood. Further, this paper will explore how the above social determinants of health directly affect the students of St. Fidelis school. Lastly, this paper will explain how the rise in cavities within these children is an issue as well as approached to overcome this issue.
Dementia is the loss of a person’s mental skills from their daily routines. The symptoms of dementia could easily be over looked, they include forgetting things, daily routines are hard to complete, misplacing things, depression, aggravation and aggression, emotion are high, even feeling like someone is a threat to their life (Web MD,2012). Disparities in cancer are caused by the complex interaction of low economic status, culture, and social injustice, with poverty playing the dominant role (Freeman, 2004). So I ask the question: Does socioeconomics impact a man’s prostate health?
Due to an ageing population , The Francis Report recommends the introduction of a new status of nurse, the “registered older persons nurse”. One of the illnesses linked in with this is dementia, and multiple factors relating to dementia are having an impact on how nurses are trained and their deliverance of services. In 2013, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) began a new development program to transform dementia care for hospitals. There aim is to develop skills and knowledge related to dementia, the roles of all those who are involved, understanding the development of action plans that identify key changes.

Chronic diseases are the ones that cannot be cured, but can only be controlled and are long lasting (The Centre for Managing Chronic Disease, 2011). Chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, stroke and respiratory diseases are the most leading cause of mortality in the world, which represents 60% of deaths all over. Research shows that 80% of chronic disease deaths occur in low and middle income countries (World Health Organization, 2015). The WHO definition of non-medical determinants of health is: “… the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life. These forces and systems include economic policies and systems, development agendas, social norms, social policies and political systems.”
Over the years, the social determinants of health (SDOH) have been receiving more attention due to its importance in determining peoples’ health access, health quality and health outcome. The social determinants of health have been described by various scholars as the situation or environmental condition in which people are born, or where they grow, live and work; unfortunately these conditions have continued to affect and determine people’s ability to access proper care.1-5 In other words, the SDOH continues to consciously and unconsciously influence people’s access to most opportunities in life including access to healthcare services both in developed and developing countries.2 This issues have continue to deteriorate in most developing countries increasing people’s susceptibility to multi-morbidity among different age groups, with a slight increase among the elderly.6
Social determinants of health has been a large topic for many years and can have a positive and negative effect on individuals, families and communities. (World Health Organisation, 2009) The social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, including the health system. These circumstances are shaped by the distribution of money, power and resources at global, national and local levels, which are themselves influenced by policy choices. Social determinants have many factors and in this essay education will be the main social determinant of health discussed and how this could have an impact on the physical and mental sides of health.
. This calls for the need of dementia care to accommodate these patients. The main aim of dementia care is to maintain the personhood in the face of advancing impairment of cognition (Hunter, 2009). This is primarily to help in addressing the plight that people with dementia are facing. Different practitioners or caregivers provide dementia patient care. There are those practitioners who prefer to provide this care at home and those who prefer to provide it in institutions. Each of the cares has its implications on dementia patient.
Ferri et al. (2006), 4.6 million people throughout the world are diagnosed with dementia every year, and the number of people in Europe suffering from dementia will increase to 13 million in 2040; and Wimo et al. (2003) estimates that approximately 63 million worldwide will suffer from this illness by 2030. This has crucial implications since it is an illness that is associated with long-term care (LTC). However, while LTC is an important consideration, the quality of life and how people with dementia cope with the illness are also of much concern, but less dealt into. Dementia can undermine a person’s self-worth and esteem, and affects most aspects of daily living (Preston, Marshall, & Bucks, 2007) affecting one’s quality of life (QOL).
When people think of the term health most of the time people think of it in terms of the physical aspect.
