Manning and Curtis (2015) simply describe leadership as “social influence” (p. 2). Leadership is not tied to a specific position description or title, but closely connected to the influence an individual has on an organization, movement, or initiative. All leaders require followers. If there are no followers, there are no leaders (Manning and Curtis, 2015). “The effective leader today must be a director and motivator, implementer and innovator, mentor and team builder, expert and moral force, organizer and developer of people” (Manning and Curtis, 2015, p. 61). Kouzes and Posner provide a clear definition of coaching, “Coaching stretches people to grow and develop their capabilities, and it provides them with opportunities to both hone and enhance their skills in challenging assignments” (2012, p. 266).
