Personal Response #3: Deadweight Workers As we progress through our teenage years we will begin to experience working for some sort of organization or company. When you work, you contribute to the community. You help make the economy and your community stronger. You are being a productive citizen and a valued community member. Sadly, not all workers are the hard-working and helpful people they’re set out to be. There are many who are simply lazy and don’t give a damn about their job. They tend to do the bare minimum and accomplish just enough to not get laid off. People can begin to worsen their QWL thanks to their constant frustration and low morale which will diminish their overall quality of life. I have had multiple experiences dealing with deadweight workers and I won’t be the first to say that I hate it. They put an unfavorable effect on all of its surroundings. It’s so easy to spot a deadweight worker and it just makes you feel worse seeing someone not contributing but is still receiving the same wages/benefits as the hard-working employees. No wonder it will cause dissatisfaction throughout the office since these employees have little to none job involvement. Productivity begins to diminish because of the lack of support and effort given by the dead-weight workers. I agree with Tom Agnew who says companies could do more with dealing with the lazy workers. I must say, it is hard but it is doable. Judging by the statistics his company provided, less than of the workers think the managers are doing enough with dealing with deadweight workers. This proves that things need to change in the work setting. I would love a company that pays regarding to the performance of its workers, not just a general wage that’s equivalent with every worker. This will motivate these deadweight workers with extrinsic rewards and their productivity will definitely rise. We need to prevent the Constaza syndrome before it takes over our economy.
