Dalia’s Behavior “Self-injury, also known as self-harm, self-mutilation, or self-abuse occurs when someone intentionally and repeatedly harms herself/himself in a way that is impulsive and not intended to be lethal. Other forms of self-injury include excessive scratching to the point of drawing blood, punching self or objects, infecting oneself, inserting objects into body openings, drinking something harmful (like bleach or detergent), and breaking bones purposefully. Most individuals who engage in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) hurt themselves in more than one way.” Dalia is a 14-year old dealing with behavioral issues. A brief explanation of self-harming behaviors that Dalia exhibited includes argumentative behavior with authority figures, engagement in physical altercations with peers, poor concentration in class, irritable mood, verbal combativeness when confronted, truancy, highly sexualized behavior with male peers, physically threatening at home, and she later admitted to drinking occasionally with friends (Plummer, Makris & Brocken, 2014). …show more content…
