Released in December 4, 2000, Eminem wrote the song called Stan sending a message to other singers to appreciate their fans since most of them see artists as their role models. When I first heard this song it made me reflect about how someone can change someone else’s life significantly. The rapper Eminem, also known as Slim Shady writes this song from a fans point of view named Stan that constantly writes to his number one artist, Eminem in search for comfort, support and friendship.
When Stan begins to write his letters to Slim he feels worthless with no purpose to life; but as soon as he sees his idols posters he feels good and figures that life could be worse. The song’s chorus reads, “but your picture on my wall It reminds me, that it's not so bad,it's not so bad…”(7) Stan always signs his name and reminds Slim how loyal of a fan he is,“truly yours, your biggest fan, this is Stan.” (25)As he waits for Slims response, Stan tries to justify why he probably hasn’t replied. “There probably was a problem at the post office or something, sometimes I scribble addresses too sloppy when I jot 'em.” (12)Stan writes about his girlfriend being pregnant as well as Slims girlfriend and even tells him what he might named his baby. I feel like Stan sees Slim not just an artist but like a close friend to whom he can talk about his personal life.
In the second letter he writes he begins to feel frustrated, I can tell because his use of vocabulary; “I ain't mad - I just think it's F***** UP you don't answer fans.”(28) He still continues to tell Slim about his family and how Slim ignored his little brother Mathew out a concert, “He wants to be just like you man, he likes you more than I do.”(35) Stan looks up to Slim because he can rel...

...s his girlfriend with his baby and himself, Slim finally replies back. He apologizes and shows interest on Stans life and answers all his questions. He writes back, “Try to understand that I do want you as fan”(100) Slim doesn’t finish his letter because he realizes that it was too late for him to help one of his fans, Stan. He writes about what he had seen on the news a drunk guy that drove his car over a bridge and had his girlfriend in the trunk, and she was pregnant with his kid and in the car they found a tape, but they didn't say who it was to. He finally realizes the guy on the news was named Stan just how his fan was named.
This song was intended to go towards all the crazy fans that do crazy things and become too obsessed with people.
“All I wanted was a lousy letter or a call” –Stan (67)

As Slim and George arrived at the bar, neither of them said a word. Slim looked at George but George avoided his attempt at making eye contact. They walked in and sat at a round wooden table that looked to be a decade old. George sat down at one end and Slim sat down on the other directly across.
Straying away from life as a whole only to be alone, some may say is the strong way to heal themselves when dealing with extreme grief or a major crisis . In the book Wild, twenty-two year old Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost it all. Dealing with the loss of her mother, her family torn to pieces, and her very own marriage was being destroyed right before her very eyes. Living life with nothing more to lose, lifeless, she made the most life changing decision of her life. Strayed never seems remorseful on her decisions to up and leave everything behind while deciding to flee from it all. This being her way of dealing with life, it shows her as being strong; a woman of great strength and character. She shows personal strength, which is more than just a physical word. It is a word of very high value and can only be defined by searching deep within your very own soul.

Sticky is a friendly person since he isn’t mean at any point in the book ( unless the messages are going off, then he might get angry.) and he does not hate any of his friends. Sticky does not really say this but he definitely shows it when he needs to fight the whisperer. Sticky fought because he wanted to help out Rynie do what they needed to do. Sticky helps out his friends in more way than one and it would be bad if Sticky had not been with
He shook her then, and he was angry with her. ‘Don’t you go yellin’,’ he said, and he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck” (91). When the author says, “and he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish,” it shows that he has a lack of judgement. If he had good judgement then he would’ve not touched Curley’s wife in the first place. The quote also reveals that Lennie takes action before thinking, this then affects all his relationships. Next, in the middle of the book, Slim asks George why they moved from Weed to Soledad. He responds by explaining that Lennie was petting a woman’s dress and wouldn’t let go. George explains, “‘He was so scairt he couldn’t let go of that dress. And he’s so God damn strong, you know.’ Slim’s eyes were level and unwinking. He nodded very slowly. ‘So what happens?’ George carefully built his line of solitaire cards. ‘Well, that girl rabbits in an’ tells the law she been raped. The guys in Weed start a party out to lynch Lennie” (92). Throughout the book, Lennie shows no change of learning what he shouldn’t or shouldn’t do, making him a static character. This makes George frustrated, making their friendship

Many white rappers have had a difficult time making it in the black industry of rap. Eminem, the most recent white rapper to hit the mainstream has had his own share of difficulties in this industry and in his life as well. The poem written my Marshall Mathers, now known as Eminem, entitled "Life," displays Eminem's views on his life, and just life in general. Eminem has continued on the legacy of the contact zone between the white men in the black man's industry, this being rap.
...so uses a generous amount of figurative language to portray Slim. Slim is depicted using a metaphor as, “a jerkline skinner, the prince of the ranch”. Slim is also said to have hands that are, “large and lean, were as delicate in their action as those of a temple dancer.” Which is expressed through the practice of a simile. George also describes Lennie, using a simile, as, “jes’ like a kid”. Steinbeck also practices dialect familiar with the area and time through a metaphor by having George say, “Me an’ Lennie gonna roll up a stake.” This means to save up some money. The puppy that dies because of Lennie petting it is a symbol of Curley’s wife who also dies subsequently of Lennie petting her hair. The water snake at the end of the story is representational in nature as it glides “smoothly up the pool” by foreshadowing the evil that is impending upon Lennie’s fate.
Literacy, or the capability to comprehend, translate, utilize, make, process, assess, and speak information connected with fluctuating settings and displayed in differing organizations, assumes an essential part in molding a young's persons trajectory in life. The ability to read speaks to a key factor of scholarly, social, and financial success (Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 1998). These abilities likewise speak to a fundamental segment to having a satisfying life and turning into an effective worker and overall person (Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 1999). Interestingly, recent studies have demonstrated that low reading skills lead to critical hindrances in monetary and social achievement. As stated by the National Center for Education Statistics, adults with lower levels of reading skills and literacy have a lower average salary. Another study evaluated that 17 to 18 percent of adults with "below average" literacy aptitudes earned less than $300 a week, though just 3 to 6 percent of adults with "proficient" reading abilities earned less than $300 a week (Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 1998).

The conflict in Enough is between Slim and her very abusive husband Mitch. He sweeps Slim off her feet in a small little diner, they get married and seem blissfully happy. They settle down into a beautiful house and have a daughter named Gracie. Several years later Mitch’s attention starts to waiver and we find out he is having an affair. When confronted by Slim he becomes angry and slaps
Not too far from the scene where George decides to reveal Lennie’s mental disability, we see Slim showing empathy for Candy, as he offers him “any one of them pups you[he] want[s]”(Steinbeck 48). Since Slim is aware of what Candy is going through and how he’s feeling, he offers Candy any puppy he wants. Slim is a caring person , and we see through a great deal of indirect characterization, mostly the way he acts towards people. Slim takes consideration of Candy’s feeling’s, offers him something that will get him into better spirt’s, and reassures Candy that it is the right decision. These same behaviors are seen again, at the end. In the aftermath of the chaos caused by Lennie, George kills Lennie. After George has killed Lennie automatically he seems to regret his decision, and questions himself. Within seconds, Slim shows up and offers to buy George a drink and reassures George, saying that it was the only way, and “You hadda, George”(Steinbeck 107). Slim knows that George doubts himself, so he attempts to put George’s mind at ease. Slim is using the same caring ways and attitude with George that he used with Candy. As a result, we see no change whatsoever in Slim. Since Slim is seen showing no change, he is without a doubt static.
