Course Reflection Paper

For me, one of the most important things I believe in is helping others. I have always wanted to do the right thing and help those in need. Almost never did it cross my mind that I also have to take care of myself. Throughout the course, we talked a lot about self-care and why it is so important. At the beginning of the course, I didn’t know what I was going to do for my own self-care. With some of the ideas that my classmates shared in class, I learned some of the things that I can do or try. I realized that self-care wasn’t as complicated as I thought it was. Some of the things that I will do for my self-care plan is: having a day to myself, traveling, going out with friends, and reading. It’s the little things that help us de-stress ourselves.

People have always told me that I am really good at talking to people. At first, I was confused at what they meant. Throughout this course, I got to learn more about myself and what people meant when they said that I am a good listener. With my own group of friends, I am the one they come to if they are having issues. I have learned that there is nothing really special in the way you listen to others. We need that strong foundation to make the right ethical decisions when working with clients. The NOHS Code of Ethics helps us set specific guidelines not just with our clients, but also with our coworkers, students, and to ourselves. One of the things that we talked about during class was to make sure that we take care of ourselves. When we have something bothering us, we can consult with our clients. When we know that there is a certain situation with our clients that we can’t handle, to make sure to refer them to someone that can help them better than us. It is set clear to us that we can’t try to take on a problem that we have no educational background on
