There are approximately 7.4 million Americans under the supervision of the correctional system. These large quantities of people are in the correction system because they have committed the crime and therefor have been convicted.

If while under the care of the correction system the offenders are treated with proper program that have been proven to be effective they can and should be allowed a second chance if they are truly rehabilitate. One of the main points of the correctional system is to retribution; retribution is the theory that mandates the balance of the scale of justice. Retribution ensures that offenders feel the pain for the crime they have caused, an attempt to get even “an eye for an eye”. Retribution is a theory that is utilitarian it seek to punish offenders for the purpose of reducing crime. Another theory is deterrence; deterrence is a form of punishment that is used as threat in order to discourage people from committing crime. Deterrence is about crime control, if you commit the crime you will do the crime. Whereas the goal of rehabilitation is to interrupts the process; to change the contributing factors that are causing offenders to break the law. The belief is that they are factors that lead an individual to commit crime. Factors such as; antisocial attitudes, bad companions, and dysfunctional family life, etc., if these factors are single out and worked on thus saving crime and reducing recidivism. I believe that if the rehabilitation, retribution along with other program they might implements works well than they should be allowed a second chance to live a better
