Prior to the beginning of my first semester at community college my cousin and I endeavored on our last summer weekend trip to “The Big Apple”. Known as the city that never sleeps there are numerous diverse attractions and it could not have been a more beautiful weekend to experience this big city. This was the largest city I have ever been to and we had the pleasure of going to the beach, central park and traveling to Manhattan. Our first adventure led us to Coney Island Beach. We began our day early that morning on the subway to Coney Island. Riding the subway was an interesting experience. It was a unique environment with so many people. I quickly understood why public transportation is the major source of transportation in the city.
10. The technology used in Coney Island's rides allowed the park managers to control crowds while simultaneously giving people the illusion of total autonomy as they navigated the park. This is a parallel to the cultural changes going on at the time, brought about in part by Coney Island. The new "mass culture" gave people a newly found sense of liberation from older, more restrictive values even though part of the reason why people were adopting this new culture was societal pressure.

I could smell New York’s bagels in Battery Park with a mixture of the most relaxing scents: the coffee people were holding while walking down the streets, the old walls of Castle Clinton ...
Because we lived so close to New York City, the typical tourist attractions lined up didn't spark our interest. Our choir teacher knew that going to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island would be an eighth grade field trip all over again, so she began to think of what we could do instead. She asked a friend she knew in the city about our situation. This friend of hers happened to be part of the relief crew at St. Paul's Chapel, located right next to site Ground Zero. Today St. Paul's serves as a museum and a shrine to those lost in the fatal attacks of September 2001 and to the rescue workers who donated their lives to help save others lives. We were scheduled to sing at the church, giving our own personal service.
I've loved this city since I was knee-high everything about it sprung out at me, the bright bold lights of times square, the hustle and bustle of Greenwich village and China Town and the serenity of central park. We began with the typical touristy attractions; the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Soho, Central Park, and shopping. We had been planning this trip for months and had poured over every detail. From the time the plane landed, we were living by a minute-to-minute schedule. This was a well organized trip and The Great White Way was not on the agenda. Or so we thought.
New York City’s population is a little over 8.3 million people. 8.3 million people are spread out among five boroughs and each have their own set routine. Each one of those 8.3 million see New York in a different way becuase “You start building your private New York the first time you lay eyes on it” (“City Limits” 4). Some people are like Colson Whitehead who “was born here and thus ruined for anywhere else” (“City Limits” 3). Others may have “moved here a couple years ago for a job. Maybe [they] came here for school” (“City Limits” 3). Different reasons have brought these people together. They are grouped as New Yorkers, but many times, living in New York is their only bond. With on going changes and never ending commotion, it is hard to define New York and its inhabitants in simple terms.
A week before Spring Break my father proposed that we adventure to Las Vegas, Nevada. Soon after, we boarded a red eye out of Dallas, Texas and headed to the City of Entertainment. First, we checked into the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. Walking throughout the hotel I was in sensory overload: lights flashing, people shouting, and cigarettes burning. From then on I identified Las Vegas as a fascinating place.
What comes to mind when someone mentions “The Big Apple”? Probably the beautiful skyline of New York City and the hustle and bustle of millions of people shopping around Times Square. New York City is a symbol of hope and freedom from people all over the world, and many people agree that it’s a place you should visit in your lifetime. Since not everyone is able to visit “the city that never sleeps”, people can learn much from it’s interesting history, famous tourist attractions, and it’s five famous boroughs.

When you associate anything with New York City it is usually the extraordinary buildings that pierce the sky or the congested sidewalks with people desperate to shop in the famous stores in which celebrities dwell. Even with my short visit there I found myself lost within the Big Apple. The voices of the never-ending attractions call out and envelop you in their awe. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is like a young child on a shopping spree in a candy store. Although your feet swelter from the continuous walking, you find yourself pressing on with the yearning to discover the 'New York Experience'.
Without a doubt, Times Square in New York City is a unique experience, but the image created by TV and movies does not show the gloominess that accompanies the euphoria of being in the Big Apple. The atmosphere is so exhilarating and exciting, you don’t even know what to do for a few minutes, but it is tinged with the bitter reality that sadness and melancholy also trail closely behind the positive. With most, if not all, of your senses being stimulated – sometimes all at once – Times Square creates a memory that will surely be cherished, and haunt you for the rest of your life.
My favorite summer vacation was when my Father took me to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. What made it even more memorable was the fact that it was my very first time on an airplane. I cannot recall another time in my life when I experienced so much joy. That trip to Universal Studios was the first time my Father and I actually did something together, just the two of us and was something brought me close to my Father. In this essay I will tell you about my plane ride over there, what I did right when I got there, and about my time at Universal Studios.

In the city people travel by taxi, bus, and the subway. Depending on the time of day it can be very hard to catch a taxi or find a seat on the subway, though.
