I have been to Florida a billion times, but there are only two places that I normally visit. Sanibel Island and Destin. Traveling to Sanibel Island is almost like a tradition for my family because every year we try to go down there. My grandparents first went to Sanibel with my whole family (cousins and all) about 15 years ago and ever since then, it has been our family’s main “vacation spot”. I have gone to Sanibel almost every year, but last year I also went to Destin. Now the main reason we decided to go there as well is because we wanted to travel somewhere nearby the panhandle of Florida. The water and beaches are also very contrasting in comparison to Sanibel. Sanibel’s beaches even had heaps of sea shells going out into the water. The sand is also more dense than that of Destin. With 1.5 million acres of Everglades stretching across south Florida, three areas are the most important to visit(NPS). The northern and southern sections along with the area in the middle divides the Everglades into these three main sections, all of which are accessible from different places. To begin with, I will simply be staying at my house, which is only 30 miles away from Everglades National Park. I would start by going to the southern section of the park and entering to the visitors station. This way, I can get the most information about the journey I will soon be embarking on. After I get all the information I need, I will then head north to Shark Valley Trail, which consists of an observation tower, a boardwalk, and an otter cave trail. Visiting the observation tower will bring me to higher elevations and give me a panoramic view of the entire park. From here, I can see the abundance of sawgrass that covers the Everglades and wildlife such as alligators and wood storks. Next on my journey, I will travel west towards the Ten Thousand Islands. For this part of my trip, I will take a boat tour in order to really get the best experience as possible. The tour will take me through one of the world’s largest mangrove forests. The Atlantic Coast offers white sandy beaches with pristine blue water and plenty of water related activities. And all over the place there are gardens, recreational facilities and sports complexes. Here we are, packing in the nice, warm, mellow sun. The sweet-scented flowers of May are blooming. The huge amount of supplies goes into the back of our big, white van. Everyone’s face has a sincerely eager smile. I look at my mom’s smile, and I can swear that it’s as open as a crocodile’s. We’re taking a family trip down to Florida.
