Complexity of Social Media Social media? What is social media? Social media is defined as social instrument of communication. Social media includes Facebook, YouTube, Flicker, Wikipedia and others. Social media is the most powerful that influences how people view on things. Therefore, people consider social media as complex. Firstly, each social media contains its terms and conditions. According to research by Science and Technology, the terms and conditions by social media are very complex for users to understand. Mental illness is an illness that disrupts people’s thought, feeling and mood which relate to others. Mental illness can be treated with combination of medication and psychotherapy. Firstly, social media gives risk to cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is the use of technology to harass,embarrass or target other person. Normally, cyberbullying mostly happens among young people. Signs of cyberbullying included being emotional, avoid going to school, changes in mood and also being nervous all the time. People that being cyberbullied should get support and comfort from others. This allows the person who get cyberbullied to know that he or she are not alone. Besides that, social media promotes inactivity. This is because people spend all their free time on social media. For example, during free time people will rather spend their time on social media like Facebook rather than taking a rest or going for exercise. This is because social media focus only on things which are not important. For example, social media focus on things like what friends from social media had for dinner last night and what they wore for this morning. Things like this might be entertaining but it is not life changing. Therefore, time that spent on social media distracts people from being present in their real life. Then, social media is cause productivity drain. Although social media helps us to connects with people and also to the newest news but social media also diverts our attention and hampers our productivity. This is because people tend to multitasking. For example, people study while they watching YouTube. As we do two things at the same time, it is known as divided attention. In fact, our brain has difficulty to focus or put attention on more than one task. Multitasking will affect work quality, accuracy and draining productivity. Lastly, social media makes us to compare our lives with others. Posts on social media will present an idealized version on what is happening around you and how things are going. This might lead users to compare their lifestyle with people from social media. For example, when a person saw a post of her friend posting a pic of branded bag on social media will actually make the person feel sad for not having life like her friend.
