Compare and Contrast Nation of Islam with real Islam The Islamic religion is referred to as the original faith. Their holy text is the Koran and the followers of the Islam religion are called Muslims. They worship God and the prophet Muhammad. However, in the early 1900s, a new religion, the Nation of Islam began. The Nation of Islam consists of people who also call themselves Muslims, but have a more radical approach to their faith. Though both believers of the Nation and Islam are called Muslims, their idea of Islam is very different. Those who believe in the Nation of Islam believe that they are a lost tribe of Israel. They believe that Black people, especially the few in the nation, will one day rule the world. In contrast, the goal of In Islam, their communities are called ummah. Their mosque is in the center, and cities are constructed around it. This symbolizes a life built around faith. In the Nation of Islam, their temple is also their sense of community. Though their cities are not physically around the temple, their social and spiritual lives are centered there. With school, religious services, banquets, etc. the whole community of believers sees the temple as a common ground and gathering place. Lastly, even though both the Muslim faith and the Nation of Islam believers cannot eat pork, there are many more restrictions for The Nation. Everything that is white is bad according to their faith. The Nation of Islam’s followers are prohibited from not only eating pork (like all Muslims), but also from eating or drinking anything white. They cannot have white potatoes, milk, white bread, etc. While there are some significant similarities between these two faiths, there are also some major differences. Firstly, in Islam, God works through prophets and does not have a physical form. They do not believe in idols and cannot have images of God. However, in the Nation of Islam, Fard Muhammad was the re-incarnation of Allah. He was essentially God in the physical form, which is what Islam goes
