Climate change has negatively impacted the production of coffee beans in Central America. Coffee tree’s are accustomed to a temperature between 59-75 fahrenheit in order to produce coffee beans. The slightest change in temperature such as half a degree can negatively affect the crop. Extreme droughts and intense rainfall have been occurring due to climate change. This has created a decrease in production by at least 30% in all Central America producing coffee countries. The rise in temperature has also allowed coffee tree diseases such as roya which is a leaf rust fungus to break out. Roya infects the leaves on the coffee tree’s causing them to fall off. While few countries in the area are able to work on mitigation and adaption, The Republic of Congo has been diligent in passing laws that can further preserve our planet. I am writing this letter to talk about what positive impacts have come from the recent laws set in place, as well as advise a plan for furthering the mitigation of climate change in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This disease has been established as one of the most catastrophic plant diseases of human history, along with others such as blight of potato and black stem rust of wheat. (Kushalappa, Eskes 1989)
Climate change is a considerable problem in Mexico. By the end of this century mexico’s annual climate will raise 4.5-7.2 degrees fahrenheit (climate). This may not seem substantial, but if this continues global temperatures could skyrocket exponentially. The major effect climate change is having on Mexico is drought. For the last few years mexico has been in a serious drought. 40% of mexico’s water now comes from outside sources (Climate). This is having a major after effect on agriculture. The government is having to supply farmers with water and replace dead crops. Not only is climate change harmful to people, but the economy as well. The solution seems simple; impose a carbon tax or phase out fossil fuels, however, it's never that straightforward.
Our product, (along with our idea) will have significant impacts on the world, both in the short term and long term. For example, the global warming crisis is one that impacts everyone worldwide, no matter your area. Global warming is one of the few density-independent issues that our world faces, meaning that, unlike problems such as disease, disasters, wars, etc., the problem does not depend on how densely populated an area is. For example, if a disease breaks down in Africa, the disease will most likely be restricted to Africa and will not make its way to Canada. This is because the disease is dependent on the African population. However, global warming on the other hand is going to impact both Canada and Africa, which means that it does not depend on population.

This was the best way to drive the development of the world’s largest commodity. Coffee is an inelastic good, meaning if coffee prices increase the quantity demanded will not decrease by much. Growers will produce more coffee than consumers want. Child labor is an issue brought up by the fair trade organization in the production of coffee (The Problem with Fair Trade). Research is being done to see if the fair trade organization is actually helping the poverty as it should be and if it harming the non- trade farmers.
