“War Begun” The South strikes the First blow! The war began when the Confederates bombarded Union soldiers at Fort Sumter, South Carolina. What led to the outbreak of the bloodiest conflict in the history of North America? A common explanation is that the Civil War was fought over the moral issue of slavery. In fact, the economies of slavery and political control the system that was the central of the conflict. What were the causes of the Civil War? The idea of States’ Rights, The southern states felt that the federal government was taking away their rights and powers. War is a conflict carried by force of arms, between nations or between parties within a nation, as by land, sea or air. The South relied on slavery for labor to work on the fields. Many people in the North believed that slavery was wrong and evil, they were called abolitionists. Wars can also be fought within a country in the form of a civil or revolutionary war. Why was the civil war created? The Civil War started because of uncompromising differences between the free and slaves states over the power of the National government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states.
