Running Head: Final Project Final Project/Research Paper There are many different areas that one must focus on as they are attempting to create a developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children. All of these aspects are equally important to the learning process. Therefore, it is imperative that we as teachers take the process of planning this curriculum very seriously. Not only is it important that we understand the basic guidelines for a lesson plan, we also need to be knowledgeable of the developmental and learning theories as well. These theories will help us to understand the way a child learns mentally and physically.
Perspectives The goal of education is to provide children with the opportunity to amass a wealth of knowledge, love for learning, and academic strength. Children go to school to read, write, and learn a variety of subjects. While education is meant to be exciting for children, there have to be standards in order to make sure that progress is being and those children are where they need to be in order to move onto the next phase of their education. Education builds as it grows, and students need a strong foundation in order to succeed and continue. Without those strong building blocks, students will continue to fall back and repeat the same material again and again.
As teachers, we need to educate ourselves as much as possible so that we can better educate the future generations. “Piaget, working with children, found that the growth of their ideas is a process spread over years,” (Sawyer, 2003, p.6). Teachers, families and communities must support one another in learning and educating our young children. If we don’t spend the time necessary to learn and broaden our knowledge, our children suffer, our future suffers. In order to become a remarkable teacher, there must be dedication to many things, one of them being passionate about how children learn.
Learning disabilities (LD) affect the way a person “of at least average intelligence receives, stores, and processes information” (NCLD 2001). This neurological disorder prevents children especially from being able to perform well academically. Therefore more time and special programs are fostered to them. Once one is educated about what the disability means, the causes of LD, what programs are available to overcome the difficulties of learning, and parents learn methods to help the child at home-- the learning disability is no longer considered a hassle, but instead a battle to be conquered. As common as learning disabilities may be, not every child in America is affected, however, the number may be larger than one thinks.
Critical thinking and problem solving are skills required to increase the growth in children’s learning and development, especially if our goal is to prepare a community of effective life-long learners. Researchers find that the definitions of each of these skills vary among the education community, but the necessity of student acquisition of these skills is demanded in the learning process. Critical thinking and problem solving offer an extensive, fundamental skill to the educating of children. This skill set is necessary for student understanding, development, and learning. It has been found that the internalization and automatic use of these skills would greatly increase student opportunity as future learners provide insight of understanding of concepts and provide an alternative way of thinking to a demanding world of self-monitoring, reflecting, and knowing.

Teachers should receive more training in order to help students learn and express these skills. With out teachers to help students through this process, students with learning disabilities will be unable to master self advocacy. The interventions suggested help the path to mastery of self-advocacy in middle school students with learning disabilities and with a consistent instruction of self-advocacy, they will not only succeed in those areas, but they will have a better quality of
Teaching is a very complex profession. Many facets of education need to be taken in order to be successful as a teacher. Teaching is not solely about imparting the skills and knowledge. It is about love and relationships that not only allows learning to happen but encourages children 's development holistically and empowers them to work towards their dreams and becoming who they want to be. The first belief in my philosophy of teaching is that each child is unique and learning should be child centered, which will motivate the children to learn new skills and knowledge.
Teaching a child to solve their own problems is a huge step in their development. Once a child knows right from wrong they will be able to make the right decisions for themselves. My goal as a teacher is to make sure every one of my students receives the guidance they need. Guidance Strategies Many different guidance strategies are used in early childhood education. There are both indirect and direct guidance strategies, both of which are used.
Dyslexic children are a type classification for children with special needs; it does not mean that the child has a sickness that makes them look different. It just means that that classification of dyslexic children need help learning. Dyslexic children are not disabled they are like every other child they just learn different (Das, J.P) .A child with dyslexia has to work much harder in order to not fall behind in their education. A lot of the time parents think that their child is being lazy or is not smart enough but that is not the case, a child might be having difficulty understanding the material whether its math, reading, writing, spelling, even talking or hearing (Knudson, Pamela). In her Article “With positive attitude, early intervention, children can overcome learning disabilities” Knudson stated that “Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that causes the brain to process and interpret information differently.” Getting the help you need any person or child with dyslexia can overcome this obstacle to become a better reader and writer.
