Childhood Memories Essay

As we get older many people look back on their childhood memories and think of it as a different times and that things have changed so much in the world. Unlike many people, my experiences as a child are very similar to my experiences now as an adult. My bank of childhood memories mostly come from summertime. Summers then and summers now are similar in many ways because of my siblings, technology, and my mom. As cliched as it sounds, summers were the happiest times of my adolescence. Not because of the obvious reasons like the shackles of school being ripped off or the blistering heat tattooing my skin red, but because for most of my youth my brother, Brad, and I would travel to a little yellow house in Kentucky awaiting my mom and my little …show more content…

With little to do while our mom was at work, Brad and I would often play with our Gameboys and if we weren’t doing that we would get on either side of the pond and use Walkie Talkies with each other or we’d spend our time watching Blockbuster VHS tapes our mom let us rent to play on a CRT TV. Brad and I would laugh about how part of the TV was discolored, but we didn’t care. Camcorders were also an exciting time for Brad and I. There’s one memory of Brad, my mom, my sister who was just a few months born, and I, creating home videos parodying reality home tour videos. Brad played as the host and we’d document our home as Home Crap Home. We also had a spin off show parodying dance competition shows famously entitled DACNE, based on the intro sign I made for the show, unknowingly misspelling the word dance. Today it’s strange for me to hear people talk about “back in my day we didn’t need technology to have fun,” and so on and so on, but for me technology was such a huge roll in what made these summers fun. Even with how minimal or outdated it was, we still enjoyed every bit of it. It’s interesting that several years later and technology still plays a huge role in my summers. Instead of playing Gameboys, my brother and I now play online games together on our laptops. My sister and I play each other on phone games. We now watch Netflix shows as a family together and Snapchat each other silly pictures and videos. Even though
