The Technological Effect Technology has changed our world dramatically over the last several decades. Several generations before us did not have air conditioning, telephones, television much less internet. However, today we have access to all of this and more. Technological advances have not only made changes in how we communicate, but also in how everyday tasks are done. The New York Times explains how social media affects children’s behavior and academics, and how the concept of dating has been altered while Louis C. K. explains how the 21st century takes little things for granted and YouTube channel charstarlineTV shows how daily activities can no longer be done without the use of cellphones. In 2010 The New York Times published “If Your Kids Are Awake, They’re Probably Online.” This article explained studies done by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Donald F Roberts which proves that the more children and teens that are on social media and the internet, that the more negative behavior and poor academics are shown. Ms. Silver states, “Dating culture has evolved to a cycle of text messages, each one requiring the code breaking skills of a cold war spy to interpret.” This statement is not entirely false but it is however a little dramatic. Years ago, it took courage and planning for a boy to ask a girl out on a date now we are able to hide behind a screen and wait for a response to “Hey you wanna hang tonight?” I agree with Cheryl Yeoh when she expresses the fact that she wants to keep the old traditions alive because if someone truly wants to see you, they will put in the effort to do so.
