Part A: Role and Responsibilities of a Director Childcare Directors take on many roles and responsibilities beyond those of homeroom educators. While these tasks may be shared with the other educators, the administrator must ensure they are completed to the standards of the centre and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The responsibilities of the Director take place both within the centre as well as outside the centre. Internally, the Director supervises staff and oversees the Centre’s Human Relations, manages financial matters, develops programming, and ensures regulations are being complied with. The report states Directors must take on a mentorship role, providing positive feedback and direction to both strengthen the educator’s competence and confidence in their abilities (p. 7). Directors should also provide educators with opportunities for further education and development of their skills (p. 36). Similarly, directors should be aware of different retention strategies that exist and incorporate these into their HR policies and procedures, for instance offering financial aid to those looking to upgrade their education and skills as related to the field (p. 23). A Director may not be involved in the planning process for individual homerooms, however, it is important that they are available to provide support to other educators at the centre when planning the emergent curriculum (Standards for Early Childhood Programs in Centre-Based Child Care , 2004, p.74 ; Regulation 17 (1) Child Care Services Child Care Centres Regulations, Policies and Standards, 2007, p. 41). The CCHRSC add that the Director may also provide support by encouraging reflective practice amongst educators, making suggestions, and providing ideas, and supplying resources and materials ("Occupational Standards for Child Care Administrators"
