A Safe and Healthy Childcare Setting
Having a safe and healthy childcare setting is one of the most important duties in a daycare. Educators practising good healthy procedures is a good way for children to learn about healthy choices as educators are, good role models.
Disinfecting toys, surfaces, utensils, and bedding should be part of a regular routine in order to prevent the spread of germs which can cause illness.
Children should be taught how to brush their teeth and be encouraged to have good dental hygiene to prevent cavities and any other dental problems. They should be taught about good hygiene such as hand washing to prevent germs.
Child providers need to know the correct way to change a diaper and appropriate ways to teach children to use the toilet in order to prevent the spread of illness.
Educators need to be prepared for any accidents that may occur, make sure there is a first aid kit that is well stocked and checked on a regular basis. Food must be handled properly and a well balanced diet should be followed. Food safety guidelines need to followed to preven...
There is a problem in Texas impacting children’s futures; many childcare centers and homes are not providing children with quality care. In an article about cost and quality in Texas childcare, child development experts Susan Eitel and Joyce Nuner quote a study stating “that [nationally] only 10% of infants and toddlers are in high quality [childcare] programs” (34). The term ratio describes the number of children one caregiver is watching. This number is one of the major factors in the quality of a childcare program. Organizations such as the National Association for the Education of Young Children know as NAEYC release recommendations regarding ratios and accredit programs based on their compliance. Childcare centers and homes must comply with certain minimum standards enforced by Texas regarding ratios; however, these standards often set the bar lower than recommendations made by these early childhood experts. The current standards in Texas do not ensure that all young children receive quality care; for this reason, the Texas Department of Family Protective Services should strengthen the minimum standards regarding ratios to better regulate the quality of care children receive.
There are many opportunities out there for hygienists to deliver the health care message to not only the individuals that cannot afford to go to the dental office, but also the individuals like older citizens and disabled individuals and to different schools around the nation. With that being said, it is not only just the hygienist job to provide that information. Other healthcare professionals are expected to come together and commonly agree on accurate information to specific individuals. “Healthcare professions, including dental hygienists, nurses and physicians should be communicating with each other and working collaboratively for common health care goals. This is the way that we should be practicing and also educating the future” (Pera). It is important to educate children now and get it in their heads that taking care of their teeth and gums and also their body in general is a good way to be successful not just now, but in the future as well. In order to do so, all health care professions are required to step up and come together to inform the young children in schools as well as the underprivileged people who lack the knowledge
Parents are always questioning whether they would like to have any more children someday. One of the aspects parents think about in this decision is child care. Child care can be pricey and the quality of the child care is also something to think about as well. Parents want their child to grow up and become very successful in life. Choosing a daycare from infant on, is part of the process to becoming successful as they grow. For one to add on to the family they need to think about the quality of child care, the price of child care, and attention of care: how their child will be raised. High-quality child care should be provided at public expense to all working parents!
Children who participate in quality early learning programs tend to be more successful later in school. They are also most socially and emotionally competent. In addition those children show higher verbal and intellectual development during early childhood than children who do not participate in early learning programs (A Parent’s Guide to Choosing Quality Child Care). In order for a child care center to be a quality center they must have an educated staff, a program accreditation, and good health and safety practices. Parents choose high quality child care for many reasons. These programs prepare children for school in which they gain intellectual and social skills. Also the programs are a good opportunity for children because they receive age-appropriate learning materials and activities to let the children learn and grow.
In order to achieve wellness, teachers / caregivers must model and exhibit appropriate behaviors, i.e. exercise, healthy eating habits, personal hygiene, emotional fulfillment, and knowledge of healthy habits. Children begin learning this at home first with their parents / caregivers. Teachers are the next important person in a child’s life to help them achieve wellness (Sorte, et al., 2011). It is imperative for teachers and families to work together in order to achieve wellness for children. They must be role models and set examples for children.
As health advocates, nurses have a responsibility to communicate the importance of hand hygiene to their patients, through informing and enabling the practice of hand sanitising, along with ensuring patients are able to continue to have their personal hygiene needs met while in
At “Don’t Worry Childcare”, the children and teachers are required to wash their hands during specific times of the day. Both the teachers and students are supposed to wash their hands after using the bathroom. They wash their hands before and after eating snacks and lunch. The teachers make the kids wash up after playing outdoors or leaving the classroom. Lastly, the children and teachers wash their hands after touching bodily fluid including, blood, snot, or spit. I have seen everyone wash their hands at those times. While washing their fingers and hands, I acknowledged the children have sung their ABC’s. They sung them loudly, and happily as if they enjoyed doing so. The teachers observed the children wash their hands to make certain each
I have always loved kids and I began to love them even more as soon as I started working with them. I am an infant and toddler teacher at KinderCare, which is a daycare. I did not realize how exciting it was watching a child grow up every day. I believe daycares are the most important and healthiest way for a child to grow up with social, physical, and emotional strengths. There are so many parents who do not believe in putting their child in a daycare, which is why some kids do not know how to communicate properly with other children their age by the time they are five. It doesn’t matter if it is an in-home daycare or a public daycare, every child needs some type of engagement with other children their
Introduction I have chosen to do my case-study at a childcare center in Framingham. This center is owned by Staples Headquarters and run by childcare company Bright Horizons. They currently have 196 children enrolled which includes the following programs of Infants, Toddlers, Preschool, Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten.
Taking proper care of the child's teeth in-between dental cleanings is essential to prevent decay and problems from occurring.
As a preschool teacher, My goal is to make sure I provide a healthy and safe learning environment. I maintain this environment by providing a clean and sanitized area for the children, cleaning it daily. I have rules for inside and outside of the classroom to ensure the safety of the children and myself.
As an early childhood educator my job is not to simple play with children. I must plan, provide and supervise all while “playing” with my students. The classroom serves as the physical environment for the children for most of their waking hours. These classrooms need to be attractive and function effectively. Concerns for any early childhood educator should always include space, equipment and materials used, outdoor space and the daily schedule to ensure that all students are provided ample opportunities to learn and grow within a safe and secure environment.
I love the idea of a special needs daycare being that I treated special needs children much of my career. This is a service that is much needed in our communities. Some explicit thoughts to consider would be the cost of the unique and pricey items that are required to care for the children. As you are aware, much of the equipment needed cost more than typical daycare equipment. Another explicit cost would be the nursing salary that would possibly be needed depending on the medical level of the children accepted into the daycare program. Licensure and Liability coverage would be an essential explicit cost to ensure your protection from risks that could occur.
In this essay, I decided to study people who have previously owned a daycare and how it has impacted their lives. Is owning a daycare hard? Why or why not? This was my main question throughout this process because owning a daycare is a job that is commonly looked very easy because there isn’t much work to do, however, there is a lot more going on behind the scenes that people don’t notice when dropping their children off.
Growing up, most oral hygiene habits are developed early in life, it is very important that from day one children, teenagers, as well as adults create and practice good oral hygiene habits to avoid the many affects of bad oral hygiene.
