Choosing a career can be quite frightening. It is a very important decision, being the starting point into adult life. One career that interests me and that I have thought about pursuing is being a chef. The reason I am interested in this career is because of the ability to cook great tasting food for myself or other people whenever, the challenge of working in a chaotic fast paced kitchen, and the fact that I will not ever get bored on the job. When I was younger, I never really thought about what I wanted to become when I grow up. My parents and family would always steer me towards the direction of being a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer. Being a chef is something I have always been interested in, so I think that this project is a great opportunity to do some research on this career and learn more about it. I am sure there are many interesting things about this career, so it is going to be fun discovering them. The I-Search will give me an opportunity to find out if my assumptions about this career is are correct and also help me decide if this career is right for me or not. Being a chef is nowhere near easy. I know this because my dad is a chef. Chefs work long hours and rarely get any days off even on holidays. Chefs have to have the endurance to stand on their feet all day long and work under great pressure in a fast pace. The salary is not all that great either. Things I want to know about being a chef is how to get started and work up to become a good chef. What is the required educational skill level to be a chef and how many years of training is needed. How do you get a job as a chef? Am I supposed to go from restaurant to restaurant asking if they are hiring? Are chefs given job interviews or do are they given a dish to cook and get hired based on the outcome of the dish? There are many questions I have about this topic
