More ZZZ’s can lead to more A’s

Do you really think that adding an extra hour of sleep will help students academically? Beaumont High School is discussing if we should change the school’s start times. Based on the article titled, “More zzz’s can lead to more A’s: Seattle Schools Move Start Time for Teens”, one believes that Beaumont High School should not change the start time to begin class later due to transportation, sports’ schedules, and the late dismissal. Seattle School Districts, Among other districts throughout the United States, have possibly changed their schools’ start times at a later hour due to the research shown from sleep deprivation.More school districts around the United States are listening to the advice of scientists …show more content…

She believes that the change in the bell schedules will help her move from getting six to seven hours of sleep to closer eight hours next year! “"We're going to look back on this time period and wonder why it took so long to Start School Later, which helps parents groups advocate for later bell times.” (Associated Press) On another hand Katie Benmar, is a Sophomore doesn't think that the new start times will make anything better. She says, She expects her life will just shift one hour later- from after school activities, to dinner, to homework, then bed. She says that she is going to bed at midnight and waking up at 6 in the morning. She also said that her current schedule, which now includes jazz choir after school says thats shes extremly tired. In Conclusion, I think that school’s should change the start times, because teens aren't focused with their work, they’re running on 2-3 hours of sleep due to all of the homework that the teachers give out. If our society expects this generation to be smarter and more active, then they should rethink the start times, have us start at later times to get the sleep we truly need.
