Chief Justice Sereno’s P5-M Luxury Car bought by SC
The judiciary who always complains about the lack of budget distribution has millions to buy a luxury vehicle. – Manila, Philippines.
In effective ordinance made by Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, The Supreme Court (SC) bought a luxury car worth P5.1-million for the official. It was reported and confirmed to The Star by an insider.
According to the news source, the vehicle purchased by SC is Toyota Land Cruiser. This is one of the expensive Toyota cars. It was delivered to the SC about three months ago.
This is yet another surprising report. The purchased vehicle has not been used immediately, as Sereno wants it to be bulletproof and requires more than P3 million from the judiciary

Gadon also said a Sereno's case, which Sereno earned a million during her service as a lawyer for Philippine International Airport Terminals Co. (Piatco) on the construction of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. Gadon cited this as additional possible ground Sereno’s actual failure to announce her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).
Sereno stated that her net worth was P24.2 million or P2.76 million higher than last year. This is according to her SALN in 2016.
Gadon didn't have any fear saying this,“ She did not declare in her SALN the millions she earned in the Piatco case. I have papers to prove it.”
Retired SC Justice Florentino Feliciano led the government’s legal team in the intercession case involving the NAIA 3 expropriation which Sereno worked with.
Records from the case presented that Sereno received at least $336,287.66 or more than P16 million for the legal service. This contains attorney's fees in the case, which has raised to the Court of

After The STAR reported that Sereno met with Court of Appeals justices and told them to resist the show cause order dispensed by the House against the three justices in the “Ilocos 6” case, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said that he is planning to check into the probable impeachment of Serano
Sereno also complained by her co-workers in the SC in his administrative orders earlier this month, it is stated mainly the appointment of Philippine Judicial Academy (Philja) officials and provision for travel allowances of her staff.
Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro requested their colleagues to review Sereno’s commands, which she claimed should have their prior agreement as a collegial body as provided under the rulebooks. She exactly assailed the appointment of lawyer Brenda Jay Mendoza as Philja chief of office for the Philippine Mediation Center, which she said violated their Administrative Order No. 33-2008 that required the appointment for the post to be approved by the SC collegially. The first and most important task may be overcoming the cynicism of so many lawyers in and out of government to whom concern for "fairness" somehow signifies weakness. It is a cynicism that government lawyers should not have the luxury of acting upon. In reality, a commitment to fairness is a highly reliable sign of strength and confidence in the merits of one's position, and it is usually those who fear the fairness of the forum who most fear outcomes based on merit. Recently, a controversy has erupted over whether Justice Department lawyers are bound by state codes of ethics and analogous local federal court rules of practice. The issue stems from rules that restrict contact by lawyers with parties known to be represented by counsel, including corporate parties. In essence, the government is seeking to exempt its own lawyers from state and federal court ethical restraints in ways that would go far beyond issues of witness contact. Courts, thus far, have been unsympathetic to this government effort at unilateral exemption from the rules of ethics.
