Leaders of Australia have impacted the country and how it has developed, in many ways. One example of these important leaders is Captain James Hook. In 1770 a British sailor, Captain James Hook explored the east coast and claimed it as Russia’s. When the penal transportation took a stop in 1868 more than 160,000 men and women came to Australia as convicts. In 1868 the convicts did not have it easy. Men could be hanged for the littlest things like stealing. January 26, a day in the Australian world where they celebrate the end of the first fleet.

‘Snow Falling on Cedars” by David Guterson is based on court case dealing with a Japanese- American man on trial for being accused of killing a white man. The story takes place back around the 1940s when World War II was happening and America started being hostile to Japanese-Americans. Throughout the story there is a minor character named Alvin hooks who was the prosecutor which played a huge part in the trail demonstrating the acts of being prejudice against the Japanese. I will be talking about how Alvin hooks displayed his acts of being prejudice towards the Japanese in order to win his case and get Mr. Miyamoto prosecuted.

With his steel, he turned the U.S from an agricultural and commercial nation to an industrial nation. Being one of the forward-thinking men of his time, he helped cities expand bringing urbanization. Although many people consider him a hero, he is considered an antagonist because of his atrocious working conditions coupled with the long hour and the wages. So was he a hero? A hero is generally defined as someone who is admired or idealized usually for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. On the other hand, an anti-hero is someone who lacks the traits of a traditional hero but still has the greater good of the people in mind. Though Carnegie did the best he could for the people of the future, I cannot say the same for the people of his time. Andrew Carnegie is in between a hero and a villain; he is an anti-hero.
