The hashtag “Cocks Not Glocks” refers to the silent protest against guns on campus, at the University of Texas. The silent protest has students strapping dildos to their backpacks to illustrate how absurd and distracting it is to have guns on campus. Pro-Gun rights advocates believe the campus carry law will ensure a safer campus as well as decreasing the amount of crimes however, the guns will only stifle the environment and cause more accidental crimes as a result. The new campus carry law creates a dangerous environment for the teachers and students, making it more difficult for students to learn as well as affecting the student’s on campus mentally. The teachers on campus are limiting office hours and leaving campus sooner to be in a safer environment but the student’s living on campus do not have the same options. For the student’s living on campus, parties with “drinking” alcoholic beverages are very common (Fox). The legal age for drinking and carrying a gun on campus is twenty-one. As an effect of drinking, students are not stable mentally. Therefore, allowing drunk students to carry guns increases the risk of accidental shooting for the students living in that area. The rigorous college courses constitute to the stress college students have, which could lead to “depression” (Fox). Depression is very common in college students due to their stress, which causes them to sleep less and overall lowering their general health. Severe depression could lead to the student being mentally unstable. From outside appearances professors will never be able to determine if the student is mentally unstable. Therefore, the students carrying guns could be mentally unstable and is just waiting to be pushed too far over the edge. Thus, endangering the students living on campus. The campus carry law will also cause “psychological damage” to the campus students (Clark). The fear of getting shot at school will produce massive amounts of anxiety on the students. The student’s anxiety mixed with stress could trigger mental illnesses. Thus, causing mental issues for the students as long as they remain on
