As we all know, Australia imports many products and sells them to many customers daily. We have all purchased a product from overseas and use them every day. In this letter I will be out lining some of the reasons why we should purchase Australian made products. I will also be explaining some of the common issues associated with buying Australian made goods.

Firstly, Australian farmers, fishermen and manufactures are renowned for having some of the best goods in the world and if we buy their goods, we will be encouraging local jobs and our Australian economy, but also be receiving great quality merchandise and produce.

Because Australia is a fairly small economy and it supports local jobs it keeps the money flowing in Australia. All buying Australian made products can do, it increase jobs, the economy and help keep Australia moving forward.

It is import that a country grows enough food to feed its self. Australia grows more food than it needs, which is good. What Australia needs to do, is invest in high tech, design and fashion. All these jobs need skill and require actual brainpower. Instead of paying someone twenty dollars an hour to stick a label on a coat hanger. This can be done overseas for a much cheaper price.

Common sense directs people towards a cheaper price. The retail price for a Nike shoe is $160-$180. It will cost around $10-$15 to actually make, paying the workers around 10 cents. Now if these shoes were made in Australia, they would have to pay all workers $20. No matter how little the job. This would drive the cost of the shoe drastically upwards. This would mean that Nike could go out of business. It is the same for any other multinational business. Adidas, Puma, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger. This could affect shopping centres, chains and Australia as a whole.
