There are a lot of topics to choose from when asked to write about a topic that is often misinterpreted. The topic I choose is bullying. Bullying is one such topic that people tend to misinterpret. People believe that a person bullies to gain respect or to get others to fear them, but that is not the case all the time. Sometimes a person becomes a bully because he was bullied as a child so he picked up the trait and uses it towards others. Three misinterpreted characteristics of bullying are verbal, physical, and social bullying.
Verbal bullying is using insults and teasing towards someone in order to gain respect. Verbal bullying may sometimes be misinterpreted because a person may think that the bully is using insults or teasing to be mean or harmful. Physical bullying is when a person picks on or harasses others by confronting them face to face using physical violence. A bully who uses this type of bullying may have experience physical bullying as a child. As a result, he learns that physical violence is the way to solve problems. The bully may have also seen a family member being bullied in this manner and, therefore, think that it is a normal way of behavior. A bully may have encountered or seen this type of act and have decided to follow what they have encountered or seen as normal.
Finally, there is also social bullying. Social bullying is embarrassing someone in public or leaving someone out of an activity or conversation on purpose. This type of bullying is misinterpreted because a bully could have experienced being socially bullied when he was younger or as he got older. The bully then reflects what happened to him as a child. A person can also become a social bully because he was left out of a lot of things and ignored by others. As a result, a person becomes a bully in order to get
