Booker T. Washington “Up From Slavery'; inspired readers across the nation. People of this time had realized that they could no longer expect support from the federal government, in their struggle for dignity and opportunity in the south, so many blacks concluded that self-reliance, self-help, and racial solidarity were their last best hopes. So, people saw Booker T. Washington as their champion and adopted his autobiography, up from slavery.
In Franklin County, Virginia Washington was given birth too. He was raised as a slave until after the civil war when he and his family were declared free. Washington does not no know much about his family history other than his ancestors, form his mothers side, suffered in the middle passage of the slave ship while being conveyed from Africa to America.
Washington and his family lived in a typical log cabin, which was fourteen by sixteen feet square. The log cabin was not only their living space, but also used as the kitchen for the plantation. His life went fast and devoted all of his time into some kind of labor each and everyday and no time for sports. After the civil war was over, all blacks were free and they felt that they should change their names and leave their plantations either for a couple of days or weeks in order to really feel free.
As Washington grew older he gets a job working at a salt-furnace, working with his stepfather, he asked if he can go to school, his stepfather said no that your responsibilities are here now. Washington decided, that he would learn something anyway and applied himself into mastering the blue-beck speller. This wasn’t helping so he made arrangements for night school with a teacher and felt that he learned more than any other kids. Then
Washington gets a job working at a coal mine, while working their he hear good things about Hampton Normal and Agricultural
Institute. So he decides to keep working at the coal mine for a couple of months until he finds a new opening and he then gets hired working for Mrs. Ruffiner as a servant. He and she became very close friends who could trust each other.

African American community was very delighted and happy to see some one from their race going to college. They all helped him and supported him in any way they could, some even gave him money. I think Booker T. Washington was a role model for all the people in this nation and not just the African Americans.
Reading this book helped me realize how hard it was for the
African Americans and what they went through. It also gave me a better understanding of what they had to do in order to get their freedom. I also now know what the time was like after the African
Americans where given their freedom. I strongly recommend for any one who does not understand what the African American

Moreover, Frederick Douglass never ever in his entire life did he get to see his White father. Well he only knew that his father was but, nothing else. But he believed that’s his White father was his master. His master’s name was Aaron Anthony. So when Frederick Douglass was left abounded he had to leave with his grandmother to a plantation in Maryland. When Douglass the age of seven he started to witness slavery and racism. He witnessed firsthand brutal painful whippings to his fellow friends.
When it all comes down to it, one of the greatest intellectual battles U.S. history was the legendary disagreement between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois. This intellectual debate sparked the interest of the Northerners as well as the racist whites that occupied the south. This debate was simply about how the blacks, who just gained freedom from slavery, should exist in America with the white majority. Even though Washington and DuBois stood on opposite sides of the fence they both agreed on one thing, that it was a time for a change in the treatment of African Americans. I chose his topic to write about because I strongly agree with both of the men’s ideas but there is some things about their views that I don’t agree with. Their ideas and views are the things that will be addressed in this essay.

But before I explain the differences between these two gentlemen, I will give you a more in depth background on each of them. In 1881, I founded and became principal of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute. I started this school in an old abandoned church and a shanty. The school's name was later changed to Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). The school taught specific trades, such as carpentry, farming, and mechanics, and trained teachers. As it expanded, I spent much of his time raising funds. Under Washington's leadership, the institute became famous as a model of industrial education. The Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site, established in 1974, includes Washington's home, student-made college buildings, and the George Washington Carver Museum.
Beginning in the 1890’s Jim Crow laws or also known as the color-line was put into effect in the Southern states. These laws restricted the rights of blacks and segregation from the white population. These laws were put into effect as partially a result of the reaction of the whites to blacks not submitting to segregation of railroads, streetcars, and other public facilities. African Americans Ids B. Wells, Booker T. Washington, and W.E.B Dubois had differing opinions on the color-line. Wells and Dubois felt the color-line created prejudice toward blacks and that the black population could not become equal with the whites under such conditions. On the other hand, Booker T. Washington thought the laws were a good compromise between the parties at the time.

In March of 1946, a man named Kenny Washington made a very important contribution for the NFL (Britannica). Kenny Washington became the first African American to ever play in a professional sports league (Amaral). Since he was colored in the 1940 draft class, none of the teams wanted to draft him (Bowen). Even though Kenny was doubted and treated differently than others, he was able to play on a smaller league team near the Pacific coast (Bowen). Then the day finally came when Kenny was allowed to play in the NFL after World War II had ended. This essay will discuss the story of Kenny Washington’s life before he became the first African American football player, what he went through to get there, and why he is important to the NFL.
W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington were two very influential leaders in the black community during the late 19th century, early 20th century. However, they both had different views on improvement of social and economic standing for blacks. Booker T. Washington, an ex-slave, put into practice his educational ideas at Tuskegee, which opened in 1881. Washington stressed patience, manual training, and hard work. He believed that blacks should go to school, learn skills, and work their way up the ladder. Washington also urged blacks to accept racial discrimination for the time being, and once they worked their way up, they would gain the respect of whites and be fully accepted as citizens. W.E.B. Du Bois on the other hand, wanted a more aggressive strategy. He studied at Fisk University in Tennessee and the University of Berlin before he went on to study at Harvard. He then took a low paying research job at the University of Pennsylvania, using a new discipline of sociology which emphasized factual observation in the field to study the condition of blacks. The first study of the effect of urban life on blacks, it cited a wealth of statistics, all suggesting that crime in the ward stemmed not from inborn degeneracy but from the environment in which blacks lived. Change the environment, and people would change too; education was a good way to go about it. The different strategies offered by W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington in dealing with the problems of poverty and discrimination faced by Black Americans were education, developing economic skills, and insisting on things continually such as the right to vote. ...

Specific phobia is a marked fear of a specific object or situation. It is a category for any phobias other than agoraphobia and social phobia. The categories of specific phobias are 1. situational phobias such as: fear of elevators, airplanes, enclosed places, public transportation, tunnels, or bridges; 2. fear of the natural environment such as: storms, water, or heights; 3. animal phobias such as: fear of dogs, snakes, insects, or mice; 4. blood-injection-injury phobia such as: fear of seeing blood or an injury, or of receiving an injection. Booker T Washington was born into slavery on a plantation in Franklin County Virginia. Like many slaves at that time, historians are not sure of the exact place or date of his birth (Washington, Up From Slavery 7). Washington had absolutely no schooling while he was a slave; he received all his education after he was set free. The fact that he had no education through slavery, made it that much more important to him when he did get his education, and that is one of the reasons he so highly stressed education.
