Birthday cakes are a huge part of our lives as each and every one of us celebrates a birthday once a year, it has become tradition , ‘our universal tradition’, that we must all celebrate our annual birthdays with a cake specially to celebrate our lives. However, people do not necessarily need a cake to celebrate their birthdays in the presence of their friends and family because they can do just that even if they don’t have cake but are simply there to celebrate one’s life. People will throw parties and celebrate by eating cake but they don’t do this because they just want to have cake, they do this because they want to spend their special day with their family and friends, so an invite to a birthday party is not an invite to have cake but mostly means that person wants you to be with them on their day to celebrate their life with them.
People have cake at many special occasions such as weddings. It is said that cake at a wedding is very important because it symbolises bodies of both the bride and groom. When they actually cut the cake they are symbolising how they both give their bodies to each other and no other person. Nowadays, not just the figurative meaning of it is of most importance, taste is very important as well. This goes to show people getting married do not only want to focus on the figurative meaning of it but want to also enjoy themselves by having cake that’s of a flavour they enjoy and love eating as well.
A lot happens at these events other than just eating cake. People enjoy the company of others and get to know each other over conversation at these functions.
The origin of birthday cake dates back to ancient times but the cake of then was very different from what we have today. The word ‘cake’ is said to have...

... an education but also for those who are illiterate, this is because some people do not need to go to a pastry school to be able to do a good job at decorating cakes but others don’t because they just have the skill naturally.
As a vestige of the agrarian economy, mothers made birthdays cakes from scratch, mixing farm commodities (flour, sugar, butter, and eggs) that together cost mere dimes. Nowadays parents both spend money on buying a cake or buying ingredients, either way they spend money and contribute to the economy because after the cake is taken care of they will spend even more money in the party the cake will served at.
This supports that cake can be eaten at celebrations to bring enjoyment, but mostly, to bring people together, The coming together of people at these functions is not just to eat cake but to socialise with others and engage in conversation.
