Cafeteria Scene - Corinne has lunch with David, Angela, and Kathryn. Kathryn tells group that Curtis kissed a girl. Corinne is crushed and leaves table. Home Scene - Corinne goes home from school. She heads for the bathroom. When she gets to the bathroom she sees blood all over. There is a bloody towel on the floor and a knife in the sink. She checks brothers room to try and find him. He’s not there. Corinne is shaken by what she has seen. She looks at family picture, longing for simpler times. She calls her mother to tell her what happened. Party Scene - Corinne goes to Curtis’ going away party with friend Angela. Curtis is excited to see her - tells her she looks beautiful. Beer pong is being played at the party and there is a lot of alcohol. Corinne participates in some of the games, she gets a bit tipsy. Curtis pays a lot of attention to Corinne. Corinne checks email on phone, sees one from her mom, phone dies as she tries to open it. Corinne asks to use Curtis’ computer. Curtis Bedroom Scene - Curtis takes Corinne to his bedroom to use his computer. Curtis is quite a bit tipsy. Corinne checks email, see's the email from her mom was just a chain email of cat pictures. Curtis starts drunkenly telling her how much he likes her. He starts kissing her arm, then her shoulder and neck. Corinne seems into it at first, then she seems to wake up and pushes him away. She berates him for only expressing interest now that he’s leaving. He tells her he was afraid of losing her, but he can’t fight his feelings. He asks her if she wants to try and make things work. Uncle Carter’s House Exterior Scene - Corbin and Dad get into a car. Corinne and her mom watch from the outside of the house. Corinne’s mom explains to her about the camp Corbin is going to. She tries to sound optimistic, but both she and Corinne look heartbroken. Mom cheers Corinne up by reminding her about Curtis’ upcoming birthday at Corinne’s grandparent’s cabin. Grandparents Cabin Scene - Corinne and Curtis ride up to the cabin with Corinne’s parents. Corinne shows Curtis to his room. Once they get inside the room they start making out. A few moments later they hear Corinne’s parents voices in the hallway. They state that Corinne will be sleeping in the room across from Curtis, along with her mom and dad. Curtis and Corinne go outside and explore the ranch the cabin is built on. Restaurant scene - Curtis and Corinne eat dinner together at a restaurant. The restaurant staff bring out a small piece of cake with a candle on it and sing happy birthday. Lake Scene - Corinne and Curtis float in a boat, watching the sunset. Nicole stated that she was trying to eat some food in the kitchen when Brandon entered and started yelling at her. Brandon then grabbed the fork out of Nicole's right hand and proceeded to stab her in the left fore arm. Following Brandon stabbing her and in order for her to get him off of her, Nicole grabbed a kitchen knife and scraped Brandon's head just next to his left temple. Michael Clodfelter, who was asleep in the bedroom, then came out and started pushing Brandon to keep him away from Nicole. Nicole went and sat in the bedroom to wait for my arrival.
The Grandmother often finds herself at odds with the rest of her family. The story opens with a portrayal of a family in their home discussing a planned road trip to Florida. The family consists of a married couple, their three children, and the husband’s mother, the children’s maternal grandmother. The grandmother, who is never named in the story, begins the story by attempting to convince her son, Bailey, that they should change the destination of their road trip to avoid running into a convict who had escaped. While this might seem reasonable, the grandmother’s intentions are self-serving and foreshadow events to come in the story. She makes a few remarks including,
