Before his image was blasted along a mountainside, Theodore Roosevelt engraved his presence into American history as a man of action. A man which would find himself in many positions of responsibility and authority. Roosevelt’s reputation as a leader had been proven in the oval office and on horseback riding toward the frontlines. His progressive policies both foreign and domestic, launched the United States into a new era which would set the tone and give the nation the momentum it would need for years to come. Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt being behind a desk or in front of the charge embodied the American spirit and put forth the great standard which for years, Roosevelt himself would adhere to. Roosevelt was born on October 27th, 1858 in New York city on 20th street. His mother was Martha Bulloch whom came from a predominalty wealthy family from Georgia. Martha was a very popular socialite in an ever expanding city who in 1853 married Theodores father; Theodore “thee” Roosevlt Sr. Theodore Roosevelt Sr grew up in a wealthy family from New York City. His father, Whom was Theodore rossevelt grandfather, was a very successful business magnate in New York City. Theodore Rossevelt had been very previlaged starting at an early age. His arstiocrat lineage had granted him and his three other siblings a comfortable childhood. Young Theodore however, was very sickly. “Teedie” as his childhood nickname was, was diagnosed with bronchial asthma. His alement made him a very weak child whom grew affixed to reading many books. Him and all his siblings were home schooled by their aunt at an early age. Young “teedie” grew an interest in zoology at an early age. Eager to get into battle for himself, the Secretary of War granted Theodore Roosevelt permission to assemble the very first volunteer cavalry unit; The “Rough Riders”. The “Rough Riders” as the unit was called, was compromised of ragtag cowboys, frontiersmen, and Ivy League scholars. Theodore Roosevelt’s unit would later become renowned for their pivotal victories and their unique image as an American fighting force. Having been a very successful leader within the Department of War serving as the Assistant Secretary and Secretary of the Navy as well as a lieutenant colonel of the first volunteer cavalry of the U.S. Army, Theodore Roosevelt retreated back to government where he served as the republican candidate for the Governor of New York. He was elected as the 33rd governor of the state of New York where he operated at state level implementing statewide reform.
