As Christian educators, there should be something that is different about us from the crowd. Whether teaching in the public or private Christian school, or colleagues, students and their parents should be able to see something considerably different about us. In order for that difference to be seen, we can integrate a biblical worldview in our content area classroom in terms of teacher-learner relationships, classroom management and behavioral issues, and creation and implementation of lessons in our area of study. In order to do this, we must hold fast to the basic truths of a loving God and reflect that in all of our relationships. An established set of fair rules and consequences needs to be made as well as follow through at all times. I automatically think to the golden rule and how much it applies to classroom management. We learn the golden rule from Kindergarten and continue to apply it but that is because it is so important. We must treat others as we wish to be treated as students and as we grow. We use it in our workplace, with our spouse and children through our day to day lives. Matthew 7:12 says “so whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also unto them.” The Lord wants us to treat each other well, in fact, this is one of our greatest commandments. An example of biblical integration in terms of biblical integration would be creating classroom rules on the first day of class and treating students with respect. If students do no treat each other with respect or me with respect, then I will need to discipline students with fair consequences. Specifically, if a student is caught bullying another student in my classroom, I would privately pull him or her out into the hall and let them know that what they did was wrong and why it was wrong. I will then encourage the student to issue an apology. I will let the student who is the bully know that if they continue to bully, a trip to the office or a phone call home will be

Schultz also stressed the importance of a biblical worldview in the teacher. As the leader in each classroom the students will adapt their teacher’s beliefs, values and finally actions. If they are taught by a teacher who holds a dualistic view of dividing the sacred and the secular, or a postmodern or modern worldview, it will adversely affect the ability of that child to develop Christ centered wisdom based upon the Word of God. Schultz, in referring to the education of children, stated “anything that hinders their moral and spiritual development is the epitome of child abuse.” (2006, p. 163). Human identity can be summed up by looking at it from two perspectives. Who we are in our natural state and who we are in Christ. Mankind in his natural state is driven by his sin nature. Romans 1-8 perfectly lays out who and what we are in our natural state. It also lays out who and what we are in Christ. “For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin.” (Romans 3:9 NIV) In Romans 1:29-31, Paul gives a long list of wicked behaviors that are still prevalent in today’s society, which lets me know that we, in our natural state, are the same as we always have been. There are no exceptions to the rule, besides that of Christ. “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (3:23) Paul emphasizes in Romans 1-3 how people have tried to free themselves from their sin nature by depending on the Law to no avail. The Law could not bring about justification (Acts 13:39), produce righteousness (Galatians 2:21), produce life (Galatians 3:21), bring about perfection (Hebrews 7:19) or free the conscience from a knowledge of sin (Hebrews 10:1-4). (Johnson, 1896) The fact is that God’s standards are perfect and we alone can never live up to them by any religious act or moral behavior. The good news is that God knew all of this. He knew that by our strength alone, we could not overcome our own sin nature. He sent us a perfect sacrifice to permanently fulfill the Law. That sacrifice was his only Son, Jesus Christ. “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.” (Romans 3:25) Through faith in Jesus Christ, the grace of God has been given to us.
