In the 21st century, it seems not very many people are concerned with being involved in their community. Some feel that they are too busy in their everyday lives, while some may not know what it means to be an engaged citizen. Being an engaged citizen does not have to be time consuming or difficult, but it does require an effort. One must actually be engaged in their community to truly be considered an engaged citizen. This purpose of this essay is not to express superiority held by an involved citizen over an uninvolved citizen. It is simply to inform readers of the aspects a citizen must have in order to be considered engaged in their community. A simple definition of an engaged citizen would be an "involved inhabitant of a community." Digging deeper, this means that an individual who is involved takes action to better their community. Taking action is the key aspect of being an engaged citizen. One who does not take action is not involved in their community. Every community needs engaged citizens, as engaged citizens are the skeletons of strong communities. Without active citizens, a community cannot grow or thrive. One who is an engaged citizen is someone who does more than talk about being involved. Words are useless without action.
