I believe that being a victim is a state of mind and a choice. Yes, we all may be victimized, but how we choose to deal with that, is just that a choice.
Having had many experiences of being victimized, I believe that I chose not to let it direct my life in a bad way. I believe that you choose to be a victim blaming that one or even more experience on why you have chosen to wrong things, such as alcohol, drugs and commit crimes. Some women have gone as far as to blame that on why they have become a prostitute.
I on the other hand have not let the experiences keep me from striving to be a good, upright citizen of society. I was three years old when my biological mother left me with a babysitter. At which point she was arrested. After three …show more content…

My sister and I were upstairs in the friend’s house sleeping, when the man of the house came up and started to touch me wanting me to kiss him. I hollered out and my parents and his wife came up and it didn’t go any further.
These are just two of the less severe experiences I have gone through. The two experiences I have had, had some effect on me, but I have chosen to not let them define my life. They have allowed me to have empathy for others who have had similar experiences. I have tried to explain to them that those awful moments in life were just that. They could chose not to let it mess up their life in a bad way.
I believe it really all is a state of mind, some wanting to play the victim for attention. Therapists state that these types of experiences affect our self-esteem. That may be so, but I believe therapists make the situation worse if they have never had the experience, by encouraging the victimized person to accept no responsibility for their lives. Instead I think they should help them accept what has happened it cannot be changed and yes it was an awful thing to happen, but it happened now let’s work on getting past it.
