As a volunteer with the St. Ann’s Charity Trust during my high school, I had the opportunity to visit the nursing homes. In this way, I was introduced to the work of a physician early in my life. In medical school, I was exposed to a wide gamut of experiences. During my clinical rotations, I have witnessed an outbreak of dengue fever where people were suffering from severe dehydration and hematuria. Most of the patients have recovered. However, some of them developed severe hypovolemic shock and could not survive. This incident had inspired me to bring forth a student-led organization along with fellow medical students; which was targeted at educating people about sanitation and personal hygiene.

It had given me an incredible opportunity to treat, educate and foster them with a healthy lifestyle and be a role model for them.
The choice to pursue the specialty of Internal Medicine has been entrenched in me during clerkship and further solidified while working as a medical officer. I firmly believe that most of the chronic diseases, such as obesity, asthma and cancers are indeed grave public health issues. My keenness to contribute to the prevention of chronic diseases has motivated me to enroll in the public health course at Texas A and M University. Here, I had developed a great insight into analyzing the public health data and designing preventive health strategies.
My interest in studying the pathogenesis of cancer has urged me to work collaboratively on a research project to study the subchronic liver and kidney toxicity of trichloroethylene. My enthusiasm to work towards improving disease prognosis prompted me to analyze the data from National Health and Nutrition Survey and assess if there was an association between smoking and glycemic control in diabetes patients. These experiences have also given me an excellent opportunity to interact with accomplished physicians and helped me hone my clinical skills.
I desire to pursue my residency in the United States to gain a broader perspective on medicine. I also admire the professionalism and accountability of the healthcare system in the United States. I have chosen Internal Medicine as a career as it provides me with an opportunity to work with both in an acute inpatient and outpatient setting.
¬My career goal is to practice as an Internistphysician from a multidisciplinary angle which includes basic science and clinical research, contributing to the problems of the health care system.
