Literature according to our textbook is one form of media that is an expression of attitude toward death. Literature gives us the meaning of death as it relates to society and individuals. (Lynne Ann DeSpelder, pg. 17) Novels about war depict how individuals and societies search for meaning in shattering experiences of trauma and loss. In order to concur with our textbook and the media that was chosen, Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare came to mind. Romeo and Juliet is the ultimate love story but also shows love in a violent way. Romeo and Juliet go against the society of their families. The lovers decided that it was better to be dead together than to be alive and apart. This type of love has been glorified to be romantic and shows strength.
Inevitable Death in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet In Romeo and Juliet it is clear that fate plays a large part. There are many references in the play that refer to bad luck or misfortune, but it is argued that the deaths of Romeo and Juliet are equally the fault of human error. The characters each have weaknesses that could be to blame like anger, ambition or ill judgement. Also some characters had premonitions or bad feelings that something bad would happen but they never did anything to stop this.
The Deaths of Romeo and Juliet Was it just one person’s fault, or a mixture? In this essay, I will include many different reasons as to why Romeo and Juliet die. I will explain in detail each point and put forward my own opinions. I will use quotes to back up each point and explain why the historical context is relevant.

The play is about a boy, Romeo, and a girl, Juliet, from two rival families that fall in love. The two families, the Montagues and Capulets, have been fighting for a long time and it affects the entire city of Verona, where they live. It is debated whether or not the deaths of the star-crossed lovers could be blamed on numerous people. The tragedy of their deaths was the faults of multiple characters and could have been prevented.

Love is a wonderful curse that forces us to do unexplainable things. Romeo and Juliet is a famous play written by William Shakespeare, who does an exceptional job in showing the readers what hate, mercy, death, courage, and most importantly, what love looks like. This play is about two star-crossed lovers who are both willing to sacrifice their lives just to be with one another. Unfortunately tragedy falls upon the unconditional love Romeo and Juliet have for each other, but along the way they experience immeasurable forgiveness and extraordinary bravery just to be with one another. Suicide is a very serious and dangerous; once it is committed nothing can be done about it. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, both of the main characters (Romeo and Juliet) committed suicide. Fate seemed to be against the pair of star-crossed lovers. Unlike in Romeo and Juliet, if one has a friend that is considering suicide, fate is never against them, and there are many things they could do to respond to that friend.
In the first scene of Act one there is the servants Sampson and Gregory talking about sexual love. As they both talk about taking girls virginity. They both sound arrogant as they talk as if it is through experience. To them the thoughts of taking a girl’s virginity seems a joking matter.
William Shakespeare treats death in Romeo and Juliet different for each set of characters. Some character deaths was because a familial issue, other were for legal issues. Romeo and Juliet's death was a familial issue, Mercutio’s death was a personal issue and Tybalt's death was a legal issue.
Love has been expressed since the beginning of time; since Adam and Eve. Each culture expresses its love in its own special way. Though out history, though, it’s aspect has always been the same. Love has been a major characteristic of literature also. One of the most famous works in literary history is, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. This story deals with the love of a man and a woman who’s families have been sworn enemies. There love surpassed the hatred in which the families endured for generations. In the end they both ended up killing their selves, for one could not live without the other. This story is a perfect example of true love.
Second, the relationship between writing and death. Traditionally, death was a guarantee to immortality (e.g. the Greek narratives where by death, the hero gains immortality. Contemporarily, this notion has been altered, and writing is now linked to sacrifice. The narrator is used to forestall death. Where work had the duty of creating immortality, it now had the right to kill its author. After writing, the author is dead, but through the text, the author lives. The author becomes a victim of his own writing, and through his absence, his presence is guaranteed.
