How it feels to be Athlete Me I am an average athlete who grew up playing many different sports that consisted of basketball, baseball, soccer, powerlifting, and football. Football was the main sport that I participated in. The sport football was also the sport that awarded me the most recognition from my peers and my community throughout my entire life.
I remember the very first day when I was in elementary school being recognized as an athlete. The way my athletic ability was discovered was when I attended fourth grade tackle football tryouts for our local football leagues around Belton. All of coaches from the area had the players run through simple footwork drills to show them how quick and explosive they were, that I performed amazingly and with ease. The coaches who attended this tryout to recruit football players for their own football teams where all highly interested in recruiting me to be part of their team. Even the fellow players that were already on teams were so impressed by how well I performed that they were trying to convince me to join

Being an athlete throughout my entire life has had its positive moments. For example, throughout my entire community everybody knew who I was just because of the sports I played and the publicity I received from local papers. I mean for example the Belton paper wrote a whole story about me being a role model in the community and phenomenal athlete on the field. Being so well known by the community as an athlete gave me a huge advantage because it was easier for me to obtain jobs and to do volunteer work throughout the community because everybody already knew who I was and the type of character I had. Another great thing about being an athlete is it has taught me so many different life skills that will benefit me for the rest of my life. The very small percentage of athletes that can make a living off of a sport that they love to do, is a very special thing. Interview with Mr. Scott William in the Field of Sport Science My interviewee was Mr. Scott William, a well-known professor in the field of sport psychology. My discipline is sport science, and although William does not teach at the university, he has a sport psychology degree. He is a close friend of my father’s and my mentor. He has been working in sport and recreation industry for the last ten years before I even knew him; so it seemed like he had a good understanding of sport science and the use of drugs in sports.
During a football playoff game, your is driving down the field to score, when the quarterback’s ankle gets stepped on by another player. The athlete, the player, the coach and the fans are all counting on the athletic trainer to get that player ready to go back into the game. The athletic trainer would need to help get the player back on the field if possible.This is why I would like to be an athletic trainer. I have a very active lifestyle resulting in a wide variety of interests outside of the classroom. I have always had a deep life-long passion for sports. I represented my high schools varsity volleyball and basketball teams as well as partaking in an adult slow-pitch softball league throughout high school and into college. Other sports and activities I enjoy include Tae-kwon-do, soccer, fast-pitch softball, tennis, callisthenic and weighted workouts, running, hiking and biking.
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
I’ve been involved with sports since I was 2 years old, participating in these taught me more than the sports themselves; they taught me who I am. I put in countless hours of gymnastics practice, so many that the majority of kids couldn’t imagine the dedication needed to become a state and national champion. It taught me a few of the most vital lessons that I will ever learn; to contribute 100 percent in everything I do and to balance various aspects of my life. His or her patients are usually athletes but others may seek treatment as well. Athletic Training is an important, busy, and helpful profession in today’s society.
I’ve always been the type of person that truly enjoys athletics and have participated in nearly all sports offered to me. I started playing sports in elementary with club softball and basketball. As I entered my middle and high school years I was able to add the school sanctioned sports to my list of activities. This afforded me the opportunity of competing in volleyball, basketball, golf, track and softball. The camaraderie and life lessons of sports seemed invaluable to me.
It will encourage students to try their best to accomplish superior grades. It opens their eyes in a different perspective on behavior as well as stronger scholastic peer relationships. It gives students activities excluding school work, because teenagers generally focus their mind on unacceptable actions. Parents commonly show passion along with appreciation when their child/children play a sport. They get to have a closer relationship and be elaborate with them more often than normal. Frequently, students do not care about their reputation or acknowledge the adults’ opinions on themselves; but in my opinion, playing sports and being mostly involved with their schools presents an improved character while in school and once they graduate. I was once told that “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” Additionally, self-esteem in high school is hard to come by, occasionally sports help! Sports cause you to interact with other people and uplift you to do better. It presents a sharpened perspective on your schoolwork, career, future, and life altogether. In some cases, playing a sport can benefit you in an enhanced form. Scholarships can be a broad opportunity for valuable players with a good education on their shoulders. As well as, college recruitment can be another option. Money is hard to come by for college and if that seems to be a struggle for a student playing a sport can help tremendously. That
I have throughout my whole life been playing sports. I still play basketball competitively and now it’s at the university level. Basketball though was not my first love when it came to playing sports. It has though become my true focus since junior high school. Coming from Canada everybody plays hockey. Its almost as if as soon as you learn to walk you learn how to skate. Whether it is at the recreation centre or at the shinny rink around the corner everyone plays. Eventually I abandoned hockey to play basketball which I have done so for the last twelve years of my life and hopefully a few more years into the future.
During the semester, I learned a lot on how to deal with psychological distress and how as an athletic trainer I should deal with athletes to overcome their situation and be there for them. Throughout my time as an athletic training student, I always liked to observe my preceptors on how they deal with athletics that are having psychological distress after injuries, and how as an athletic trainer I should handle these situations in a professional manner. There is one situation in particular that occurred during the King’s College football season that I would like to discuss.
