In its simplest sense, belief is an acceptance of the existence or the truth of a statement, something, or someone. As human beings, we are all predisposed to believe. For instance, humans are inclined to believe that there is a purpose in life and everything that exists must have an origin. But, these beliefs on purpose and existence must stem out from a greater belief. This is the belief that there is an intelligent being beyond existence that gave us purpose and created all that exists—God. Although humans are inclined to believe in God, this belief is not universal. An example to illustrate this non-universality is the existence of atheists. God, being the powerful and mysterious being that he truly is, does not give solutions to problems instantaneously. Since God did not respond the way Peter wanted Him to respond at that time, he became disillusioned—Peter felt that the God he believed in for almost his entire life was not really the God he expected to be. He turned into an atheist. Luckily, the Peter’s father started to become better through treatment and medications from a psychiatric hospital. Eventually, he went back to work. In the same year, their financial situation became slightly better when Peter’s sister found a high-paying job after college. God, in hindsight, slowly provided the solution to the problems of the Guirguis family, yet Peter, blinded by atheism, failed to acknowledge this. A year later, Peter Guirguis went to college. The remnants of disillusionment were still present in his way of life. Fully embracing atheism, Peter found comfort in what was concrete and known, rather in an invisible, divine God. Instead of looking at life through the lens of never-ending joy Jesus promised in heaven, he only looked at the narrow frame of lifelong satisfaction. For the next two years, Peter lived extravagantly—he went to parties, drank alcohol, ate at fine restaurants, and bought everything he wanted instead of studying well and earning good
