Arranged marriages are typically not practiced in the United States, however, they are still a part of other cultures. While arranged marriages are often seen as a barbaric or outdated practice, they can still be successful. It may not seem important to study arranged marriages since they are not widely practiced in modern America or other western cultures but some benefits of arranged marriages found could be used to lessen the negative image western civilizations have about cultures that continue the practice of arranged marriages. There are definitely drawbacks in the practice of arranged marriage but there are also benefits that are often overlooked.
Arranged Marriages have been around since time can remember. An arranged marriage is a marital union between a man and a woman who were selected to be wedded together by a third party. Historically, arrange marriages were the main way to marry. In certain parts of the world, it is still the primary approach. There are two types of arrange marriages. The first is a traditional marriage where the children can, with strong objections, refuse to marry their soon to be spouse. In a forced marriage, the children have no say in the matter. Bread Givers shows an excellent representation of the pressures on children from their parents to be married against their will.

Marriage is a part of life. Something that many people, if not everybody, look foward to. Marriage is a sacred thing, it is when two people dedicate their life to their love of their life. Your whole life revolves around it as evrything you do and evrything that happens affects your marriage. It is dedication, to live your whole life next to your partner making tough and easy decicions. There are going to be good times and there are going to be tough and difficult times. Regardless of what comes, you stick through it and side by side you support each other and stay together. Or do you? Many times the struggles and the pressure is too much for many marriages.
Nowadays we live in a world which is full of choices and the choice of the person you would like to merry is one of the most important one. It is really hard to decide whether this person is really “yours” or it is just the illusion. Thus, can it be a better way to have somebody who decides who will you be married to? Some people think it is unfair because person doesn’t have the right of choice but the others think that arranged marriages are a good choice. Free choice marriage is a marriage in which both partners choose each other by themselves and the choice is based on factors such as physical attraction, the desire for emotional stability, love, similar outlooks, personalities, interests etc. However this is not the only way to choose. In arranges marriages the partner is selected by elder family members but the young people may have the right to veto the choice if they strongly disagree with it. There are definitely pros and cons of both and only after taking them into consideration person can decide which to choose: arranged or free choice marriage.
Some’s definition of Marriage is when two souls coming into one soul –still distinct but forming one entity. Being raised in the church, marriage is when two people come together, declaring their wedding vows to each other and to God. Marriage is
Arranged marriages have been around for a while and they still are. In some countries arranged marriages are actually tradition but it is wrong to arrange a marriage for necessity instead of love. Did you know that arranged marriages can be annulled? You can legally annul your arranged marriage with a legal court session. With arranged marriages, you hurt your children more than help them. By marrying them at a young age, they don't get much education. Arranged Marriages are cruel because people deserve the choice of who they marry and a chance of love.

If you look at the divorce rate of arranged marriage on google, you will find that its divorce rate is at 1.2%. When looking at the success rates they're between 70-90% depending on the country, but behind all the success, is love actually present or is arranged marriage used for family social status and wealth? What is marriage? According to Webster’s Dictionary a marriage is “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.” It can also be stated for those of the same sex, but for the purpose of this paper it will be examined from a heterosexual standpoint.
Some people prefer love over-arranged and suggest that it is more successful than arranged marriages. Studies have shown that men and women in both types of marriage reported high levels of satisfaction, commitment, and passionate and companionate love. South and East Asia, the Middle East, and South America who were all once very strict on arranged marriage seem to be backing out of it (“To Love or to Arrange?”). Studies showed that the men have higher levels of passionate and companionate love for their spouses and commitment to their marriages than did the women in arranged marriages. A recent study examining Indian couples in arranged marriages, and U.S. couples of love marriages revealed that in terms of marital satisfaction, the two groups are very similar (“To Love or to Arrange?”). According to Dr. William Cornell, a Marriage and Counselor professor at the University of Florida, “Culture plays a large role in deciding whether a love marriage is better than an arranged marriage- it is all a matter of perspective” (“To Love or to Arrange?”). Due to cultural differences, it is difficult to say which form of marriage is the best. However, love and arranged marriage, both have benefits to them. The article “To Love or to Arrange?” states, “In arranged marriages there are fewer incompatibilities such as same religion, caste, dietary preference, linguistic group, socioeconomic background, etc. In a love marriage, there is individual autonomy, meaning that it 's your life, so you choose who you want to spend it with.” The two individuals also know one another well. At the end, it all depends on what background the person comes from. There really isn’t one that is better than the other. It all depends on the two individuals ability to adjust and understand one
The chapter with the topic that interested me the most in this Sociology course was the one dealing with marriages. I thought it was interesting to see how marriage can take on so many different meanings depending on what country or culture a person belongs to. To most people, especially here in the US, marriage is usually the union of two adults (usually heterosexual) who are in love with each other. This means that the two individuals get to choose who they want to be their future husband or wife. However, in India, it is not an uncommon practice to marry a person that your parents have approved/chosen for you.
Choosing someone as a life partner is everyone independent choice not imposed relationship by others. If someone is forced to a relationship or been chosen by parents would cause lots of problem such as: escaping from responsibilities, and pressure to fulfill each other demands. In free arrange marriage the couple makes decision to live together, they are not being forced to the relationship. This would lead the marriage to a successful pattern, which each try hard to understand their responsibilities and work eagerly to fulfill their goals and demands. There would be not blaming others if the couple faced problems in their life because they make the decision and they are completely responsible for their
Each marriage comes with a different perspective and story, whether it is an arranged marriage or love marriage. Arranged and Love marriages are very similar yet different. Love is the pure feeling of attachment. Arrange marriage is like a blind date in hopes to find love.
