Why is soccer called a sport? A sport is something that can be competitive or casual. Games played in a tournament. Teams compete to win a certain prize. To improve their game by practicing with each other. Soccer is a sport because it has all of these elements.

Something popular is something people looked forward to. Something that is popular is something people talk about and enjoy talking about it. Soccer balls were found in Egyptian tombs and the balls were made of linen, it is speculated to have dated back in 2,500 BC. The ball was rapped in animal skin to improve the ball's ability to bounce. There were no goals found but soccer balls in Egyptian tombs. No set of rules like we have today.After the Egyptians came up with a way to kick a ball and make it bounce. 2,000 years later a different form was found in China. In China there was a new to play. A sport called cuju also translated as ¨kick the ball with foot¨. The soccer ball was also different than the Egyptians made it. They would get feathers and stuff in a leather ball. They would play in a field similar to Modern soccer. The chinese would hang a piece of cloth near two poles and would have to shoot through it to score a point. After this it lead to the sport becoming popular and even used by the military. The became widely played and so rules were made. The rules similar to Modern soccer in which you can't touch the ball with your arms and hands. Around the same time, the ancient Romans were playing a similar style of soccer.The ancient Romans had a unique way of playing ¨soccer¨. They had no rules of any kind. There was 54 total players, 27 on each team. There goal was to get the ball in the goal. There were also many injures involved because there were no rules. Young boys in Roman played their own version as well. The boys would run around the streets kicking the ball. The recklessness of this caused problems in town and in some scenarios would lead to death. The Middle Ages kept the young boys version alive. There were still no rules. It was played in the streets and went out of hand. Anyone could join which lead to many problems. The game was too popular and could not be stopped.
