Visualize this: Someone is trying to rob your house. If you had a guard dog, that could help, since guard dogs are supposed to protect you. What about a three-hundred pound, ferocious, carnivorous, Siberian Tiger? Too bad they are illegal in most states. I believe that exotic animals should be allowed as pets because some exotic animals are naturally quiet, most of them are hypoallergenic, which means that they do not cause allergic reactions, and they live longer than common household animals. To begin with, according to Animal Central, some exotic animals are really quiet. Animal Central states, “You won’t have to field calls from neighbors that are annoyed because your snake won’t stop barking!” (Animal Central) It might seem silly, but basically, the article is revealing that snakes, a type of exotic animal, do not make much noise. It also shows that dogs make louder noises than snakes. This evidence proves that some exotic animals are more silent than the usual pet. …show more content…
“If you are allergic to cat or dog hair, an exotic pet is your best option. Most exotic pets are hypoallergenic and will not cause any allergies.” Alternative Petz suggest for people to get exotic pets.” (Alternative Petz) This quote shows that cats and dogs are not good for people with allergies, even though they make great pets. This also directly demonstrates the fact that exotic pets do not have anything in their fur, or skin, that causes people to have allergic reactions. This justifies that exotic pets are great for people with specific animal
Do you think that keeping exotic animals as pets should be legal? Well, I think that owning exotic animals as pets should be illegal. First, safety is a main concern for both the animals and for people. Secondly, it cost a very large amount of money to properly care for these animals; money people usually don’t have by themselves. Finally, it is against the law in many places to own these animals. Exotic animals should not be kept as pets.
These numbers illustrate the risk that exotic animals pose to owners and community members. Keith Gisser, an exotic reptile owner, claims he's “not the kind of animal owner neighbours need to worry about”, yet Brian Johnson, Gisser's neighbour, says one of the reptile owner's snakes escaped into his backyard (www.wkyc.com..). Injury and fatalities are a risk, endangering the community when exotic animals are kept as pets, which is yet another reason why owning them should be illegal. Exotic animals carry diseases and infections that can be potentially harmful or fatal to humans, jeopardizing the safety of the community. These diseases range in severity from common ringworm infections in African pygmy hedgehogs to lyssaviruses in pet bats (Belotto et al)....
Therefore, the ownership of exotic animals should be banned in America because they are dangerous to humans and they are mostly endangered. Although some disagree that they should be able to own any animal for various reasons. If an exotic pet has an owner, the animal is a threat to any person it comes in contact with. From 2010 to 2015 in the United States, there have been 167 injuries and 59 deaths from exotic pets. Not only are the animals being owned but all the other animals in the wild, 19 species are predicted to go extinct by 2023, 8 of them because of people owning exotic pets.
Colb, Sherry. "A Response to the Claim That Eating Animals Is Natural." Free From Harm. N.p., 25 July 2013. Web. 16 Sept. 2015.
Exotic animals are cute and playful when born, and even when they grow up. Though, animal instincts are animal instincts, and wild animals are never completely predictable. Given these facts I do not believe exotic animals should be kept as pets. Wild animals were born to be kept in the wild. To keep them in a backyard or cage is cruel.
To quote Jeremy Bentham in his book An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation, in regard to the consciousness of animals, "The question is not, 'Can they reason? ' nor, 'Can they talk? ' but rather, 'Can they suffer? '. It is far too common for us as humans – the top of the food chain - to forget that we are not the only beings on the planet capable of thought. It is very simple to lump together all the creatures deemed as unintelligent or insentient together and basically de-animalize them – stripping them of their own evolutionary accomplishments and cognitive or mental development. With no empathy or deeper understanding of these beasts, we are free of any moral weights on our consciousness that may come from forcing them to live in humiliating and revolting conditions and are fed a chemical concoction of hormones and chemicals. This unfair and unjust treatment of animals has touched the hearts of many individuals across the globe, influencing them to take up a new diet that with it brings about a new lifestyle. Vegetarianism (or veganism, for those who are serious about
However, there are ways to correct the issues with the present system. If all 50 states and other countries around the world were to institute stricter regulations, such as those mentioned above, it would help make owning exotics safer. Animals like lions and puff adders have no place being in anyone’s home, but other animals like ball pythons and leopard geckos are reasonable. The most important thing that the authorities can do to help regulate the exotic pet trade and reduce the potential damage caused by it, is to educate the public. It is essential that people be involved in and aware of decisions that are being made. Especially decisions that concern their safety and that of the world around
...ople should have the right to own an exotic animal as long as they agree to follow appropriate rules set by any form of government or organization, and allow officials to routinely inspect the conditions that the animals are living in.
This proves that animals communicate similarly like humans. Different species communication varies in how it is used and the complexity of it. Bacteria use the most basic form of communication known as quorum sensing. Honey bees use a more complex form by dancing to explain distances and locations. Birds are more complex with calls and songs telling each other of danger or mating calls. Some birds are smart enough to learn limited human language on top of their own to communicate their own needs. The species with the most complex form of language is chimpanzees. They are able to communicate with their own primitive form of language and learn other languages like our own. Different forms of animal communication is similar to that of humans.
Imagine wanting not a puppy, but a tiger for your birthday, imagine the expenses of that tiger and the dangers and hazards of owning that tiger. Do you really think it’s a good idea to get that tiger? No, it’s not. It’s a lot of work, and it’s also very dangerous. Exotic animals are not good to buy and have. If you buy that cute tiger, it will eventually grow up and not be so cute, it will be dangerous and strong, it’s also a wild animal and it’s very unpredictable, also there are many diseases you can catch from that tiger, and there are many dangers of having that tiger as well. (Long sentence)
After reading Wild Animals Aren’t Pets and Let People Own Exotic Animals, the question that asks, should exotic animals be considered pets is finally answered. Exotic animals should not be considered pets. These animals if not kept right are too dangerous to be a pet of anyone, on the other hand people believe the animals are not dangerous if kept with responsible private ownerships, and finally people aren’t only the ones getting hurt, the animals are too.
Having exotic animals as pets is immoral and dangerous. They endanger the community, become sick, and their owners abandon them. Each State in the USA has a different law against exotic animals; multiple allow exotic pets, some allow restriction, and few do not permit exotic pets. Even if keeping an exotic animal is illegal, some one will go against the law to have what he or she wants. You may think ‘i can take good care of an animal. It will be better off with me,’ but it won't. Every country should have and exotic animal ban and realize the hurt one is causing to these poor
Thousands of exotx animals come to the U.S each day with very little screening. Just think one those animals could be your pet. More than 650 million exotic animals are brought in the U.S. in the last three years. They can spread diseases that can jump from animal to human, human to human. According to the U.S. Center for DIsease Control and Prevention, at least seventy-five percent of emerging threat in the U.S are found in zootic diseases that jump from animal to human.
Zoos display fascinating animals from all over the world for human entertainment, research, conservation, and education. Many scientists conduct studies on animals in captivity that they may not have been able to in the wild. Zoos educate all the visitors that come; they let people know everything that they know about the animals on display. We do learn a lot from these animals, but not all of the animals in the zoo are behaving like they normally would in the wild. Larger animals, such as elephants and orcas (commonly known as killer whales), have trouble with being confined in such a small area. However, many smaller animals benefit from zoos because they provide protection from predators, natural disasters, and poachers. They also benefit from conservation efforts; the babies being born get all the care they could ever need. Some animal rights activists are concerned that the conservation efforts are limiting the gene pool of the species. They argue that the small number of animals able to breed in captivity limits biodiversity and leads to weaknesses in the species overall. Zoos are wonderful places to study and learn about animals, but we need to improve the living standards for animals that struggle with captivity.
Certain animals need more protection than others, because they don’t particularly need to be on the list. Animals like the Bangle Tiger or the Siamang are the most threatened among others because they are loved for their skins or they are wanted as pets. They go through the pet trade there all their life because they are so rare and beautiful. Just because the animals are a prize kill or to have doesn’t mean people should harm or endanger them. Make your voice heard as a human race, our job is to protect what is theirs.
