Imagine a day where you felt like you couldn’t go on. Now imagine that day never ended.
That is what life feels like for those that decide to no longer be apart of this world. Suicide is a way out, but it’s the wrong way out. It’s easier to sleep than it is to be awake. It’s easier to bury problems than to face them. It’s easy not having to make decisions. But for those that have to live knowing a loved one couldn't is an unbearable reality. Suicide is an epidemic that gets placed under the rug because no one likes talking about death especially those that chose to end their lives in the most unnatural way possible. People that suffer like Evan Perry should be sought to be understood instead of preaching to them. A major motivator for suicide is depression especially for young adults. Depression can stem from a multitude of things. Depression is not just being said but a complete loss of all motivation. Motivation causes an individual to wake up, shower, eat, socialize, and much more. Without that motivation hopelessness wreaks havoc. Those that suffer from depression will often have a susceptibleness to the disease. Factors such as genetics, biochemistry, environment, and personality play a huge part in depression (Parekh, 2017). Depression can be treated in numerous ways. A common treatment for depression is by medications called antidepressants. These medications can work as “uppers” or tranquilizers. This type of medication often requires prolonged usage and can even cause serious side effects. A poor environment can be living situations to family issues. In the case of Evan Perry his parents also played a role in decision to commit suicide. Since individuals that chose to end their lives are between age 15-24 which is the age most individuals like with a family. With a family comes issues and many issues are extremely serious. Many individuals that have suffered abuse in the past have attempted or successfully committed suicide. Many domestic issues such as molestation or spousal abuse play a key role in an individuals mental health. Abuse is not always within the family and can happen to anyone. When Lindsay Armstrong a 17 year old girl was raped her pain was too much to bear. While she was in court giving a testimony she felt as if she was being raped all over again. The defense lawyer questioning her made her handle the pair of undergarments she was wearing as the time of the attack and show them to the jury and judge. The following day she was found dead in her bed by her mother. She had purposefully overdosed. It is often carried out as a result of despair, the cause of which is credited to a mental disorder such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, alcoholism, drug abuse, as well as stress factors such as financial difficulties, troubles with personal relationships, and bullying. It is a tragic reaction to stressful life situations. Suicide is a devastating event with strong emotional results for its survivors and for families of its victims - and the most terrible is that it can be prevented.
Every student who tries to succeed or do their very best in class knows the pressures of schoolwork, extracurricular activities, sports, volunteer work, and applying to college. Even if the student isn't trying to get into Ivy League schools, they still know how much work it takes in a work to keep their grades average. What people don’t know is that this is nothing but a mask covering the loneliness that seems to run through her veins, and the unexplainable sadness that never goes away. She fears speaking of it, of admitting the uncontrollable hatred she feels for everything about herself, so much that she contemplates ending it all. The fact is, suicide is the third leading cause for death in people under the age of twenty-five. Our country needs to stop seeing this as a casual thing. Depression, anxiety, and suicide in youth are real and serious issues that we need to be more aware of in today’s society.
Suicidal tendencies in adolescents begin around the ages of 10 through 19, with warning signs, prevention, treatment, and the causes and effects it has on the human psyche. Suicide is when someone decides to take his or her own life because they are suffering from a painful mental illness and have lost hope in who they are. Because when hope is lost, some feel like suicide is the only solution to truly make the adolescent pain go away permanently. Scientific evidence that shows the people who have committed suicide have a diagnosable treatable mental disorder or substance abuse disorder (The National Institute of Mental Health, 2010). Suicide has become a critical, national problem and the extent of this is mind-boggling. Suicides have been proven to be one of the leading causes of death among college students. According to Webters dictionary “suicide is the act killing oneself on purpose”. It derived from the Latin sui, meaning “self”, and caedere, which means “to kill”. But this is just a definition, because an actual suicide holds different meanings to people such as tragic, shocking, a relief, a cry for help, a shame, heroic, the right choice, punishment, revenge, protest, anger, a mistake, desperate, hurtful and many more. But why do people, like college students who have their entire future ahead of them, simply give up hope and turn their heads away from life and commit suicide. There are several causes of suicide, recent incidents of suicide on college campuses, warning signs from a suicidal. I blame the Constitution and the United States law for not taking any hard initiative on the subject of suicide. I also impose the choice of the media, which is reflecting and portraying suicide towards a wrong direction. However most important questions remain: can the growing epidemic of suicide be solved, what are communities doing about it and what can they do to help?
Depression isn’t just a state of being, or someone’s mood. There are different types of depression, and each of those types have their own lists of symptoms and treatments, all similar but they have some differences.
Suicide is one of the most common death around the world. Life is just taking away very easy by someone or yourself. We have study the causes of someone killing themselves, but our human behavior can easy change and eventually make that deciduous. The causes and effects of suicide are depression, the past meaning your life before, and feeling unloved or lonely. The effects are the people that loved you are going to be depress, never reach those goals that you set for yourself, and people that loved you will feel the guilt.
