We should honor veterans because the effects of war are still prominent in their everyday lives. The majority of veterans experience both mental and physical health issues as a result of war. Because of these disabilities, they may find it difficult to keep a job or be able to do every day functions by themselves. There are approximately 21.8 million veterans in the world today and roughly 22 veterans die every day due to their mental and physical disabilities. We should honor them because not only did they suffer during war, but they are still suffering from the effects of war and some are not getting the proper help that they need. This is due to a stigma that presented itself during the Vietnam era – that is the time of the Vietnam War. Countless men were drafted into a war that no one wanted to fight. A study conducted in 1980 found that “Vietnam veterans who entered the military, served and fought in Vietnam, and were released into a hostile American society were severely handicapped” (Conflict). These men who were forced to give their lives, to become disabled in many cases, were released in this “hostile” society that hated them for doing what was not a choice on their end. They should have been honored like those who fought before them in World War II, but they were completely dismissed, despised, and left to fight for their own
Americans are defined by the respect they have for their country and its government, in taking advantage of their freedoms and rights that they gain by showing respect through allegiance, pride, and loyalty.
When you look into veterans eyes, you can see several things that are important. The pride shines through, the pride of serving ones country, and the dedication to protect other peoples freedom even it if requires paying the ultimate price. These men and women give their lives to give us our freedom. As a one of the many individuals that they are protecting it is vital that we see that pride and appreciate where it comes from.
America’s veterans should be honored because they have suffered through so many hardships that others could not and have not survived, and they did it for their country that they loved and still love today.
Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder need to receive better care, because post traumatic stress disorder is curable, damages relationships, and veterans made many dramatic sacrifices. The health care for veterans needs to be more easily accessible.
Veterans day means a day for us to thank the ones who have served in the military and war. Sacrificing every moment of their lives to defend our country. The Veterans have a significant importance everywhere. Whatever the reason is for them serving our country we should appreciate them for all their work. Veterans day was created because World War I ended . Fighting and wars did not end and are still going on and there are still Veterans out here today. Veterans day is a day to celebrate ones who were in war. Not to be confused with Memorial day , memorial day is when we celebrate the ones who died serving. To summarize, these warriors who have dedicated their lives to serving this country with justice, bravery and dedication have achieved more than what they are recieving now. Dont these amazing men and women deserve more honor and respect by getting the medical attention that they so desperatley earned while defending our liberties and freedoms that make us the strong United States of America that we all have come to love?
Veterans that are homeless should be housed. This is important because more and more people are signing up to join the army. The more people that sign up means, there will be more veterans that are homeless. The more homeless people that roam the streets means bad neighborhoods and even worse schools. More effort should be directed to help homeless veterans to get their lives back.
Tragic events occur not only in the United States, but also all over the world. From these tragic events communities, families, and the government decide to place memorials for people that were lost and as a thank you for people protecting the citizens of the country. Envision a man that sat on a grimy concrete block, as nightfall began to crystallize before his eyes. His hair, charcoal-grey, was matted and straggly, as if he had ever known the pleasure of a hot shower or comb except when he was in the war. His once shimmering brown eyes were know hollow and cold. His eyes, that were once filled with the upmost blissfulness, now sagged like the bulky bags underneath his eyes, consumed by the loneliness and despair he felt for himself, for his lack of purpose in life. This man did not bare a smile, only crinkles where one used to be. He wore his only faded blue jacket with a tan shirt tucked underneath it. He wore cruddy worn out jeans that barely seized his thin waist and boney legs. His only pair of shoes that were once white, we're now grungy. His finger nails were bitten and dirty. This man, like many other homeless veterans, struggle everyday of their lives.
Growing up I always had to deal with the fact that my father was involved in the military. My father was deployed twice: once in Germany, and later to Kuwait. I was only four years old when he first traveled and almost every day I asked where dad was. The second time I was fourteen, and I was devastated that my best friend wasn’t going to be home for a year. Both times he left, it was awful for my mom, my brother, and me because he was the one person that kept us together as a family and once he was gone we were just broken. A military family goes through more than a regular family does in a year. Those veterans have families, how do people think they feel. Children who live in a military family have a higher risk of depression, anxiety, and other mental issues. How did the country move on after so much death and suffering? I don’t believe after such horrid events causing so much death you can truly move on however, as a country efforts to date have and are being made to locate and bury those who were lost in the Civil war. This definitely I’m sure brought, much closure to the families who are missing pieces of their history, pieces who they are and the family they come from. Memorial Day was founded around the Civil War and each year we remember those who paid the ultimate price to sacrifice their lives for a fight for freedom and equality. It’s very saddening to look back on history and see how many lives were lost in a war that began for something that one would think would be easy as human beings
After a veteran returns from war, some are lucky enough to go home without a scratch, but many suffer severe injuries, in addition to the incapability of reintegrating back into society. As these difficulties arise almost all veterans turns towards the help of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the VA, for both physical and mental help. Although, many veterans are searching for this help workers of the VA make it difficult, as they constantly judge those in need. According to Martin Kantor, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist, and author of Uncle Sam's Shame: Inside Our Broken Veterans Administration, Many vets are going to private hospitals because of the “fear of being treated like a second-class citizen” (25). "The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country” (-General George S. Patton Jr). Here within our borders we are the lucky ones, we have been blessed with the pleasure of so many brave men and women; to volunteer in the world's greatest military; and put their lives on the line for something that they believe is a moral obligation. But, think of some other countries, that have conscription (the practice of ordering people by law to serve in the armed forces) laws. We as a nation have some laws on conscription, and if you are male and above the age of 18 you have already signed the slip of paper stating that in the time of war; if our great nation re-instated the draft then there is a great chance you will be serving on the frontline of the next Great War. This brings me to my first topic of this page, is it ethical to have a draft? My second topic that I will discuss will be on if it is morally acceptable to "draft dodge". What I mean on the second topic is if you have a right; that morally allows you to not go fight in the war.
