School days should be shorter because, students would be able to get enough sleep, there, there would be more time for students to do extra-curricular activities and students would be less stressed. If school days were shorter students would get just as much work done in less time. If school days were shorter students would have more time to sleep. “According to WebMD children between ages children between ages 12 and 18 need at least eight hours of sleep” (ehow.com). Between the long six to seven hours spent at school, homework, extra-curricular activities and sports very few students get the amount of sleep that they need. If students aren’t getting enough sleep it’s going to be hard for students to concentrate at school the next day. Lack of sleep can contribute to obesity, depression, car accidents and lower quality of life (theatlantic.com). If school days were shorter students wouldn’t feel as stressed. A lot of students need to spend a great amount of time studying independently. In a lot of classes there is time where students aren’t doing anything because the teacher is done teaching their lesson. If each class was a few minutes shorter students would have more time that they could use towards studying subjects that they are unsure about. This would make them less stressed because they could be more confident that they know all of their subjects well. Huffington post says “by shortening the school days, students wouldn’t be as distressed about going to school and their grades would be higher” (huffingtonpost.com). In conclusion school days should be shortened. It would reduce stress, give students more time for sleep, extra-curricular activities and sports.
