During the presidential election of 2016, President Donald Trump promised to Americans he would deport illegal immigrants, who were stealing American jobs, out of the country as soon as he took the office. Two months after his inauguration, he finally completed the promise to America by hiring more officers for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to capture and deport illegal immigrants. However, in the article “Is ICE’s Help-Wanted Sign a Welcome Mat for Rogue Applicants, too?” by Ron Nixon on The New York Times on March 12, 2017, the author expressed his concern over the President’s order. He argues the massive hiring would increase corruption within the agency. With millions of illegal immigrants living and working in the United States, this problem is urgent and may threaten the national security. However, this problem is not unsolvable. Illegal immigrants are cheap labor. They only do low-pay, uninsured jobs like farmers, dishwashers or gardeners. They even accept wage under the required minimum wage. Therefore, with less expense, employers tend to hire illegal workers to do dangerous and heavy works that no one wants to do. They demand illegal workers. Also, illegal workers have come to the United States for decades. They even marry and have children in the United States. For years, those heavy, dangerous and low-pay jobs have been designated to illegal immigrants. Americans will not do those jobs. To fill up this shortage of workforce, the President need to provide working visas for those immigrants. With working permit, immigrants have to pay taxes, which will contribute to the national income. Also, the government can control and regulate immigration.
