Gun deaths in the United States are abnormally high compared to the other countries in the western world. The amount of gun deaths in a year reaches the tens of thousands, which is way too high. Mass shootings play a big part into these statistics. It seems like there is a new mass shooting every other week. By enacting stricter gun control laws, these numbers have a high possibility of drastically dropping. An argument to be made is that gun laws need to be stricter. There needs to be rigorous background checks and more qualifications need to be met in order to purchase a firearm. It should be a lengthy and in-depth process. Mental health should also be added into it. This includes more information on mental health and having mental health evaluations being mandatory before buying a firearm. Semi-automatic weapons and bump stocks should be greatly restricted or even banned, but guns would not be taken away completely. At this point, it is impossible and will probably cause more problems. Year after year, the government has not done anything to try and stop these mass shootings. Instead of trying to come to a solution, people decide that their opinion is right and refuse to hear other opinions. There does not need to be such extremes taken, a bipartisan solution is possible. Politicians need to forget about their parties and come together to solve an extremely important issue. At this point, it has become essential that some sort of change is enacted. Politicians and policy makers need to be pushed to make changes about stricter gun
