Anyone who has been a single parent or struggling family knows how difficult it is to find child care options. Particularly, if you are a college student. All throughout Washington state there are many different programs that offer day care assistance for students. There's only one problem, the fine print. For a needy family or a single parent, who has decided to better their future by attending college, the options for child care assistance are extremely hampered. While, there are child care programs available for college students, the limitaions against the students, who plan to continue their education past a two year degree, are detrimental to their success; by offering BFET and assistance through financial aid without restrictions it would …show more content…

Most colleges offer some kind of day care program but, Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington has a program unique to its location: the BFET program (BFET). BFET stands for Basic Food, Employment, and Training. This program offers students, who are eligible for basic food benefits through DSHS, and are currently attending L.C.C., assistance with child care among other things. But, wait, there's a catch. The only way a student is truly elligible for such benefits, is if they are enrolled in a two year degree program. The reason behind this, is the thought is that, if a student can finish school within two years and obtain employment, then they will no longer need state assisted benefits and will be able to withdrawl from any funding being provided. There's only one problem with that, it's not enitirely accurate.
