Animal Cloning Animal cloning is a procedure that involves producing a replication of an animal, which occurs through asexual reproduction. Cloning makes a duplicate of genes and differences among cells and organs occur. In 1996, the creation of Dolly the sheep brought uproar around the world because it is the first animal to be cloned using an adult cell, not an embryo. This scientific achievement happened at the Roslin Institute in Scotland. Scientists want to clone in order to produce new organs that can maintain biodiversity; they want to continue the rare breeds and protect endangered species. By doing so, they will be able to study these clones in order to have a broader knowledge on the development of the embryo and diseases. Through animal cloning, they will get the chance to examine what can be done to treat diseases. Although animal cloning can replace and recreate damaged organs, it must be stopped because it detriments genetic diversity and it inflicts harm on the health and safety of organisms. …show more content…

According to All About Animal Cloning (n.d.), animal cloning produces healthier offspring. Because of that, it minimizes the use of antibiotics and the use of growth hormones. Through cloning, endangered species can be protected. For example, Panda cells in China are produced to reserve species. The Roslin Institute (2014) explains that cloned pigs during March of 2000 helped in supplying donor organs for xenotransplantation, which implants animal organs to humans. Because of animal cloning, damaged tissues and cells can be replaced and genetically identical organs can be produced. Kidney and bone marrow transplant, for example, are benefits of cloning because it aids in supplying animals with the organs they would
