Should college athletes get paid? This question has been around since the early
1900s and has lately been becoming more relevant as technology has allowed for college sports to be televised, websites have made college gear available for purchase from anywhere in the world, and media attention has shifted from professional athletes to future professionals. The main argument for paying players has arisen in the collegiate sports of football and basketball, but has spread to many other sports due to the increased media coverage of all collegiate sports. People may now watch a college game from anywhere in the world. Cellular phones are now increasingly portable and applications allow for the viewing of virtually any game one would like to watch. The more views a game receives, the more money it brings in. Also, all of the new technology is making the viewing of games easier and easier. College athletes realize how much money the
NCAA makes and are becoming irritable that they play college sports without being paid. The argument for whether or not college athletes should be paid has been around for decades. The argument arose during the first intercollegiate game of football, because the players believed that they needed to be compensated for their performances in the competition. College football players, and even the president at one point, became concerned with all of the deaths happening in college football. This enraged many players due to the fact that their lives were on the line, yet they came out of each game with no money whatsoever. Also, many of the players that played in college football games were not students of the school which they were playing for.
These players were recruited by the colleges and paid to play in each game.
