The purpose of education is a topic that is very contradictive, it’s talked about all the time, but the ones receiving the education aren’t supposed to question it and just accept the knowledge that is being given to them. Education is the foundation of life, it helps prepare us to get jobs, it helps us earn money to maintain sustainability and pay for the necessities that we need. That’s what schools always say, to the students, to the parents, to anyone who asks. Has anyone ever asked if what they’re are teaching students is to help prepare for life, or to just be another robot in this society where the only thing that matters is money and job status?

In the poem “You Go to School to Learn”, Thomas Lux explains that, without learning, a person would not have an education or the proper tools/training in order to carry out a normal and healthy life people are supposed to achieve during their lifetime. People are meant to obtain and maintain jobs or careers when they are old enough to take care of themselves, to help them buy things that are needed and wanted in order for them to live a flourishing and contented life. Helping someone learn can be a good job to have, but that can not be reached if a person has not yet learned themselves.
